Without me stripping my 10/22 down to measure, what diameter rod should I be looking for?

Sorry for sounding clueless but a picture of where it is installed would be nice.

No picture, but it's at the back of the receiver below the stock line. You have to take the stock off to see where it is. It is a ~1/4" diameter pin that runs across the receiver with holes through both sides.

If you look at the back of a 10/22 bolt you will see a scalloped cut running across the back face. The pin fits into this cut when the bolt hits the rearward limit of its travel.

mine is snug to a point i have to pay attention which way it goes in, very snug
