No idea where the chip got to? I'll have to examine the interior of the case well. Hopefully it's in the case. I never discovered the damage until a few days after the shoot and yes the gun is shelved until repaired.
I would repair the chip first, using a little piece of walnut that matches the colour and grain as closely as possible. If there is any cracking, deal with that.
Bedding the contact surfaces would come next. This would insure that recoil forces would be transmitted evenly. It should be possible to do this work without any external signs of the work being done.

Nice shots of everything, guns, shooters and club. I can't tell you how many of my friends worked part time loading clays there when we were in high school. Of course it was Dewinton then.

John S. Boa was a sales rep and factory shooter for Ithaca. Besides his Knox, Indiana address he also had a Canadian address according to ATA records. He was a 4 time Canadian National Trapshooting Champion. Records do not go that far back with the CTA but this was information Ithaca posted in their ads.
From what I can ascertain he took delivery of the gun in 1929 and had it shipped in 1931 to the Grand American Trapshoot where he presented it to a well known ATA shooter of the day by the name of Morgan Davis of Springfield, Ohio who was gifted the gun by the purchaser Charles "Sparrow" Young, another well known Champion Trap Shooter who also used Ithaca Knick shotguns.
