My Ross barely dents the primer in the "cutoff" mode, it shoots fine in regular mode. Any thoughts from other Ross owners?

By cut off mode I assume you mean with the bolt stop in the position to stop the bolt head from travelling rearward enough to pick up a cartridge from the magazine? This should not impede function of either the bolt or trigger mechanism because the mag cut off on the M-10 action simply stops the bolt from travelling far enough rearward to pick up a cartridge. Is there something else going on?

There are the three positions, down is FIRE , middle is SAFE and UP is the single feed firing that bypasses the magazine. Not sure what else could be going on. If I didn't mention it, it's the .280 Ross sporting rifle.

Yes yours has 3 position. Not all did. And the MilMatch rifle’s cut offs are actually backwards in operation to the other M1910 rifles. I have 11 Ross rifles in 280 Ross and a few dozen 303s.

I would start with a good cleaning, especially the bolt and receiver.

I just purchased two more .280 Ross's for a total of three. Two of the rifles have the three position lever and the third has a hump in the lever that prevents it from moving the top position. Is this an "after market" mod? What is a "MilMatch"? Is the .280 Ross's parts compatible with the military M1910? Have you tried to rechamber or rebarrel to another caliber? Have you mounted a scope to any of yours? Sorry for all the questions, finding someone who has so many Ross rifles is unheard of in the states.

I’d have to pull all mine out to compare, but I bet it’s factory. The bolt stop will have one less detent in it as well. The 303 factory sporters generally don’t have the third position.

MilMatch rifles are the prototype .280 Ross MkIII short rifle, the rifle design Ross was trying to sell the war department to replace the Lee-Enfield around the same time that the p1913 was being trialled in .276.

No I haven’t tried to recharger in another caliber, although I would like a 280 with a .284 bore.

I have two scoped SDSs and one scoped M-10 on the way.

Some parts are interchangeable, some are not. The bolt face is slightly different, obviously the magazine is. The base receiver is the same.

There are a few big Ross guys stateside, but they’ve mostly slid into the shadows these days.

Is the scoped one you had made? What mount did you use?
