Picked up another press this morning and it came with a "free box of accessories" (nothing in this hobby is ever free)

Turns out its a full setup to convert the press to do steel shells, including pellets measuring .170, .182, and what appears to be a #### mix of 2 smaller sizes (1990's duplex loads? lord knows).

I've never reloaded steel, but it does appeal to me because I enjoy learning new things, but also for some grouse hunting (yeah, I'll need some smaller pellets if I want to eat the grouse - #4? #5?)

It came with some load data but none of the powders are available anymore. It also came with a VHS from MEC which I'm sure absolutely slaps but I don't have a VCR anymore. I'd love to watch it and upload it to youtube. Alas.

SAM 1 load data with a modern powder - What do y'all like to use? Slowest SG powder I've got is longshot, but I don't think it's suitable. I've got a can of hodgdon universal too, I saw they list some loads with it for steel 2 3/4, but not this wad. Isn't that WAY too fast for steel? I dunno, just seems ####in weird so I'll ask.

I have win AA hulls, and a couple flavours of straight wall ones

Recipes please!

Back in the day I loaded Alliant Steel powder in Federal Plastic Gold Medal hulls, using 1-1/8 oz steel 2’s……….

I utilized the RSI published loading data found in their yellow magazine style publication.

From what I remember straight walled hulls are best for reloading steel shot, so the Win AA’s aren’t the best.

And steel shot reloading is a giant PITA, because components are so on and off for supply (Alliant powders!)

I haven’t reloaded steel in years, and buy factory now as the frustrations far out weigh the benefits!
