6.5 Creedmoor Now Faster than 6.5 PRC-We Ordered All Types

What about faster powder vs slower? I think the case utilizes faster powders not more powder based on load data for the 7 BC - it's using the same powders I use in 7mm08. (Could be a combo of more AND faster of course)
Maybe you should try a BLEND of both and let use know how it works out for YA ? :unsure:
 
I have one 6.5CM I can keep using handloads and brass in for range work, also have one I could try out the Peak in. Don't much care about the barrel life on the one, all I ask it that that damned ammo shoots MOA. If it doesn't, I have loads that will, world won't come to an end over it. I'll wait tiI see the LRX load though.

Some kind of steel? Is it reloadable, or does the increase in pressure pretty much render the case useless?

Recoil is apparently similar to normal 6.5 CM ammo. Federal claims similar barrel life but I don't know how is that possible. For example recoil of 7mm BC is similar to 7mm PRC despite an extra 15k psi.

Peak alloy is a steel alloy (exact composition is not available). It's reloadable but it seems more complicated than standard brass. I suppose it's going to be less an issue in the future as even the US army is moving toward high pressure cases. More adoption = more options down the road.

This is what Federal claims about reloading : The Peak Alloy case is also reloadable when following Federal's lab-tested processes and data.

I have read Federals Information on Features and Benefits described in the first post .
They are using an alloy case opposed to brass .
Is this allowing them to load a different powder than in a brass casing ?
Is this resulting in increased speed ? Is the alloy case able to hold more powder
Sorry but I’m not well versed in all the interacted of ammunition ballistics and such

Patented Peak Alloy case technology is fundamentally different than brass cases. Created in response to U.S. military solicitations, it utilizes a proprietary steel alloy that includes other unique elements. This same alloy is used in manufacturing safes, nuclear reactors and other high-strength

applications. Peak Alloy allows Federal to safely increase chamber pressures far beyond the limits of brass case ammunition, significantly increasing velocity and energy. The Peak Alloy case is also reloadable when following Federal’s lab-tested processes and data.

* Its the case material that allows higher pressure and therefore higher velocity- they are probably using a special blend of powder that can get the high pressure but still fit it all in the case .
I can load brass cases to get 3100 fps but the brass life is one shot. Over expansion and the primer pocket expands to large to hold a new primer . 🤪

I can get 3000 plus with brass cases no problem with certain std powders we all have available to us .

The question is why?
The 6.5 creedmoor was not built to be as fast as it could be, up to the maximum limitations of the brass and cartridge.
It was build to benefit from the ridiculously slippery long and high bc 6.5mm bullet while reducing felt recoil.

So why jack the 6.5 cdm up? Isn’t that what the 6.5 prc is all about. For the roid raging speed freaks who miss their magnums!?

I say Leave the 6.5 cdm alone. It is simply awesome just as it is.

I used to hate on the 6.5 cdm.
Then i bought one.

Pretty much game over since then.

What benefit does a couple of hundred extra FPS offer for most shooters? The vast majority of shooters are not capable of exploiting the current performance of most cartridges. Adding more speed won't change that fact. People who think more velocity will increase their accuracy or range when they struggle to hit a deer sized target inside of 500 yds, are simply fooling themselves.

When you shoot an elk and it runs off on you and it leaves no blood trail due to no exit wound, you'll understand why a couple hundred feet per second could help.

Why do you think people buy a 6.5 prc? Why not just hunt with your .22?

At the risk of really starting something, that is pure ignorance. Exit wounds do not necessarily mean an increase in lethality.

Simply put, at any reasonable hunting range, velocity in any reasonable hunting cartridge is a minor consideration.
 
In the military, this is meant to allow increased lethality at greater ranges , especially with armoured targets when using full length barrel rifles, or to get the same range as standard ammunition as with a long barrel while using a shorter, more CQB friendly barrel length. A skilled hunter or target shooter may find the extra range useful, or the ammo may be useful for a shorter barrel truck/tractor/ATV gun like a shorter barreled Maverick or BCL TRX Bronco Hunter to give them longer legs. In either application if there is accelerated barrel wear, it may be acceptable to the user.
