You imply that the Makasi does not function. The fellow in the video linked above would beg to differ.....
There has been exactly 1 "Lemon" reported to date. It just happened to land within Canada, which is unfortunate but hardly worth condemning an entire platform over. This is especially true when LITERALLY everyone else is reporting excellent reliability following a brief break-in period to loosen things up so that the Bolt Catch engages on an empty magazine. Your inference that the Makasi does not function reliably is both incorrect and baseless in the face of all evidence to the contrary....
IMHO, it would be wisest to await user feedback regarding the Canadian NR version of the Makasi before making a definitive determination one way or the other. Although reliability is already satisfactory, we may find that those QC issues have now been addressed in the Canadian model. Similarly, accuracy may change, for better or worse, with the substitution of the 18.5" Barrel.

I have a large selection of magazines that I will be checking for compatibility with the Makasi. I don't expect there to be any unpleasant surprises based on the Makasi's Magazine Well geometry. I also have a bunch of 10/30 Ammo Storage Components (ASC) magazines as well as 10/20s that I l will be checking. Other brands include Mission First Tactical (MFT) 10-round synthetic mags, C Products Defense (CPD) 10-round metal mags, and 5/30s from Magpul, Lancer Systems, Hexmag, Troy, and others.
Sorry, but I am not currently tracking 5.56/.223 ammo prices. I am sitting on a considerable stockpile of both 62gr and 55gr ammo, as well as several thousand rounds of 62gr Law Enforcement factory seconds (for imperceptible scratches in the Nickel casings) to chew through.

308 ammo is substantially more expensive, therefore the 223/556 version is always the preferred version for the sport shooter, probably also for LE or military since weight of rifle and ammo is always an issue.
