Whatchya Gonna Run for a Big Game Rifle This Year?

For guiding bear this spring I used a PGW M18 Titanium/ Carbon fiber in 7 STW. I suppose is about what they call the Elite Hunter now, but don’t know if they used that name when it was built. Lightest rifle I own.

This fall I’ll probably try my APS Raptor. Proprietary version of a Defiance, 27” fluted Bartlien, McMillan, Jewel trigger, HS btm. It’s chambered in 7 Allen Magnum, and I’ve got it sort of idling along with 160 Accubonds and 100 grains of H1000. 3500 fps if anyone cares.

ML deer: .54-cal T/C Hawken with PRB, 70gr FFg. Max range for me is 75 yards, plan/hope to put a doe in the freezer early in the season with this gun.

General deer: Primary rifle I want to use is a .308 Brno Effect that I've had for a couple years now and have so far blooded only on a couple coyotes and a crow. I carried it in '24 every single day of the season, except one...and that's the day I got my buck, with a lesser rifle. I carried it a bit last year but mostly used another new-to-me just-received treasure, and of course that other rifle got a beauty buck. This year, the Brno is doing the deed, for certain, bar none...I hope...:)

Elk: my hunting partner and I got drawn this year, an any-elk tag and I am very much an any-elk hunter. I want to use something special, so my main rifle will be a Blaser R93 in .375H&H that has huge sentimental value to me. Don't need it...just want it...:) Any elk taken with this gun will be an event; if it turns out to be my first bull, it will be a major event. :)

Awesome! Congratulations! Would love to see the wound channnel. I’m in the process of putting together a RSS to handle my shooting needs but am always interested and tempted by the “Don’t Need More”
No problem.

Entrance side, after the front quarter was lifted off. 2 ribs evaporated in that hole.

Well I finished putting together a load for the 16" barreled 45 Raptor, pushing a 290 gr copper bullet. Hitting the 2, 3, and 400 m gongs, all first round hits, and about 2-3" off center, will work for me this season.

Elk and moose on the hunting menu this year. I'll have my 6.5PRC as back up if need be.

My wife will be carrying a 6.5CM, CVA single shot, that I finished loading for 2 weeks ago, with the same 1st round hits out to 500m. 127gr LRX in the case for that one.

I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it out hunting this fall, but if I do, it will be with my Tikka T-3 270 WSM with a Leupold VXII 3X9X40. I usually shoot 130 TSX, although I'll have to start using the TTSX when I run out.

Gonna be trying to get my ON deer tag filled this year with my Savage 110 Trail Hunter Lite in 350 Legend.

Sporting a Burris 2-8, and shooting Hornady 165gr FTX
Havent have a chance to try the hornady 165 in my Winchester 350L but the barens tsx 170 shot really good and put a hunting on the big does I have have taken with it

I'll be hunting again this year with my 6.5 CM SIG Cross, using 140 gr Winchester Whitetail loads. The rifle is equipped with a Vortex AMG Razor 6-24x 50mm Scope, B+T Bipod and a Timney Trigger. I had previously hunted with a .300 Win Mag for bigger game (Moose and Elk) and a .308 for medium deer-size game. The deer at least, don't seem to mind the difference between .308 and 6.5 CM....
