That really depends on what type of trigger is in the rifle you have.
There are a couple of different versions of the later "X" type triggers, or the earlier "Walker" type triggers.
The "X Mark Pro" trigger only has about 2 pounds of adjustment, with the lowest setting from the factory at 3.5 pounds, which is often closer to 5 pounds by my scale.
The "X Mark Pro Adjustable" has a wider adjustment range.
The early Walker triggers, my favorite, supposedly have issues, and Remington has published a list of serial numbers that have these triggers.
I don't know if they will still replace those recalled triggers after their bankruptcy.
I really like the Trigger Tech replacement options.
Your best option right now is to take your rifle to the range with the trigger that's presently installed, and see if it works well for you.
Some folks insist on extremely light or two stage type triggers. Some folks like triggers around 3 pounds for general purpose use.
Most shooters are quite happy with the factory installed triggers, as they come from the factory.
Only you can decide which you prefer.
I don't know ... should you?Should I change out trigger , to a better after market one while doing this?
Everybody was a "newbie" at one point. And they say there are no dumb questions lol
And if it still stinks, then where does he go? Triggers are not a fix for a rifle that will not shoot better than 2-3 moa, no matter what you do to them.Test it first and then if it stinks go for a Trigger Tech
Absolutely get a trigger tech and be done with any and all trigger problems !Have acquired model 700 Remington ADL in 7mm mag. Going to restock and arrange for floor plate etc. Should I change out trigger , to a better after market one while doing this?
I have Trigger Tech triggers on my two full custom 700 Remington rifles. They are Premium, 1.5 to 4 pounds and both set at 1.5 lbs.Have acquired model 700 Remington ADL in 7mm mag. Nice Relay !My hunting/fishing buddy is a fairly well regarded gunsmith down here. I recently bought a rem700 VLS in .223 and I brought to him to mount the scope. A Bushnell DMR II pro on a game reaper 1 piece mount. While I had it there, he popped the stock off, turned 2 little screws, smacked the butt of the stock hard on the ground a few times to make sure it was safe and handed it to me. I won’t be upgrading that trigger until it becomes a limitation for me… which is probably never. In short, find a gunsmith who really knows 700 triggers and pay him to set it for you.
Also, same buddy took me to my first 1,000 yard match and lo and me his “loaner” 700 which he built from spare parts around his shop. This is my target with a factory Rem 700 trigger and I’m no great shakes.
A properly tuned factory 700 trigger will outperform most shooters on their best day
