If that were an option I'd probably skip the wait time and just buy a really nice factory rifle

Me too.

When it comes to custom stuff, theres so many good factory options I don't think I have an interest in any custom builds ever again. A modification or two perhaps, rebarrel if shot out but thats about it.

I really enjoy my Steyr CL2 and would recommend for that price point. I think the SBS action is one of the coolest production field actions out there. It has unique features that I enjoy: two position magazine, two position bolt handle, set trigger and three position safety. The spiral barrel, butter knife bolt handle and green stock do it for me aesthetically. Only complaint is when a pic rail is installed the sights slightly disappear behind it. Mine’s the SX mountain model in 243.

I had this custom rifle built this year (25-06) for $3,200, tax included. I purchased the stock, barrel, action and trigger seperately, from different businesses. Sent-it-off to the gunsmith to put it together. The barrel is the most importance for me, at 27" and .650" at the muzzle.

There are many great factory rifles, such as: Winchester 70, vintage Sako's, Anschutz 1782, Weatherby Mark V.

The more I ponder this, the more I keep coming back to two things:
What do I need out of a rifle?
What will make me keep a certain rifle?

And for $2500 I can get two or perhaps three rifles set up to do different hunts.

There are way too many attractive options out there.

boxhitch - I’ve eyeballed the Bergara’s notably the Wilderness Ridge and the Squared Crest lines. Haven’t seen too many members on here using them thus far. I like the 700 footprint however, makes it easy to swap stuff out if needed or wanted.
