The Sulun SPASS-12 is a Turkish clone of the Franchi SPAS-12, imported by Blitz Creek LLC out of Clay Township, Michigan. THE classic gun from Jurassic Park and Modern Warfare 2. (It does not run like one.)
I paid about $1,100 to $1,200 for this Gen 2, expecting something in the better tier of Turkish shotguns.
A real Franchi SPAS-12 is pushing $6,000 if you can find one. This was supposed to be the shortcut. It was not. We had roughly 750 rounds and did not get through a quarter of a box. I do not think we cleared more than three full magazine tubes without a stoppage.
Failures included rounds double feeding out of the tube, the lifter not presenting a shell into the chamber, failure to extract, and a case head left in the chamber with the rim gone.
The extraction cut looks too wide for the extractor to actually grab the rim. Target loads, Fiocchi Dynamic Defense buckshot, Hornady Critical Defense, and slugs all failed.
Switching to pump did not save it.
Other notes from the video: the tube ships with a limiter, so it is 5+1 instead of 8+1, and the spring already feels weak with the limiter in.
The magazine tube loosens under fire, which walks the gas setting off. The folding stock needs a tool to actuate and shifts on the shoulder.
The safety is a crossbolt, not the lever on the original. The pump and semi selector is a button, and the manual of arms is not the same as a Franchi. The trigger is fine. That is about the only mechanical win.
Scored out of 100, it finished at 1, and only because it looks enough like a SPAS-12 to hang on a wall.
Ethan’s Gen 1 was also bad. If you have heard some of these run, this one did not. A thousand dollars in Vegas is a better bet.
