Vintage rifles that can still make tiny groups.

What older 22 lr target guns are still competitors. I’m thinking anschutz model 54 can still shoot with the best of them. What are your thoughts.
The Match 54 won most Olympic medals for decades and doesn’t take a backseat to anyone, even now.
Bought 2 old Annie 54’s for $1,100 each, put good glass on them and headshots on squirrels at 75 yards are easy. Price of new Anschutz rifles is through the roof.

If it was accurate 50 yrs ago it’s probably better now. New ammo is better.
Agreed. I have an Anschutz 1411 match 54 made in 1974. The ammo it seemed to always prefer was RWS match, recently I tried Lapua center X and long range and it was easily grouping 1/4” or a little better at 50 yards. As good as it was with the older RWS ammo it does a little better over all with Lapua. Not sure how it would compare to a modern Anschutz or custom rimfire but it still does ok.

There are quite a number of vintage .22s that can hold their own. Remington 37s, Winchester 52s and 75s, the BSA Martinis, BRNOs.
I have a BRNO #4, it was made in 1957 bought it brand new in the box in 1992. It is built like a Royals Royce, shoots almost everything really well.

Once I put 10 into under 4 inches at 200 yards with an elderly BSA Martini with iron sights. Not an International.
I couldn't do it again these days, but I'd bet a nickel that the rifle could.
I had to do it as soon as the morning fog lifted and before the wind picked up. CCI SV.

A few of my better shooters.

- Moss 144LS with a Lyman 57MS.
- Anschutz 190 with a Diopter.
- BSA Martini Mod 12 with a Lyman Target 30.
- TOZ Mod 17
- Zastava CZ 99 Precision with a Bushnell
- Greener-converted Martini Henry in 22.

I have a Suhl 150 standard, prepped by Jim Williams. Absolutely a contender in any accuracy contest.
I have a Remington 37 [in all fairness, it has been rebarrelled] also deadly accurate.
A Mossberg 144LSB. Has surprised quite a few at the range.
A Remington 541T sporter. Won a 100 meter bench shoot several years ago.
Have owned several others over the years Annie 54s, 64s, Remington 40x, Schultz & Larsen, Sako, etc
Find ammunition your rifle prefers, and the list of accurate vintage 22s grows longer. EE.
