Makasi mk15 initial overview and issues

Thanks for sharing your experience and it's interesting to see these issues despite being an alleged "QC has been fixed" example. Hopefully it'll rectify itself with a break-in period like my Makasi which took 300 rounds to get working.

Unfortunate to see the extra dwell time of the NR barrel doesn't improve function by adding extra energy into the operating system. Leads me to suspect the lack of BCG mass (buffer weight) being poorly compensated by the dual nested recoil springs is contributing to the failures to feed. The extra mass would help with the BCG's inertia when stripping the round from the magazine and reduce bolt bounce as you have documented.

If you're handy, would you be able to share detailed photos of any proclaimed "fixed issues" compared to my rifle? I think it would be valuable for others to see what changes Brigade Mfg. actually made.
Quoting this, were you also getting failures to go into battery?

Havent even gotten there yet chief
Very interesting. I thought you were u/CAFLoreMemes on Reddit who shared nearly the same experience on the same day. He mentioned his next 300 rounds did not improve function as it breaks-in, and the rifle is being sent back to RDSC for investigation.

Absolutely, nothing but feeding and cycling issues the first 300 rounds for me. A frustrating pseudo straight pull action basically.

But does yours run now after a prolonged and ridiculous 300 round break-in?

It's pathetic that this is what we have to deal with but that is the unfortunate situation we're in, and I think most of us here would be fine if it takes 200-300 rounds to get it working as long as it runs fine thereafter.

Apparently same internals. Just longer hand gaurd.

But they would have to say that or everyone would cancel their 12” orders. So who knows.

The initial reviews are very disappointing.

Where are those initial disappointing review? Because I counted 2 disappointing and 2 good for this new RDSC batch.

I said it again and again those cosmetic issues are minor.

Guns don't work out of the box gonna cause returns and warranties, therefore they kill margins.

They should consider going to single spring instead of dual spring, think they are trying too hard to precisely manipulate the spring rate vs displacement without a guide rod for that "soft shooting" impulse. A single spring may batter the receiver notch that hooks the spring rod guide more with a harder impulse in recoil, but it probably will reduce all these feeding issues caused by the BGC outrunning some magazines + an array of things like complaints of hard charging, etc..because this dual spring arrangement seems to be introducing some issues that are hard to be contained and be consistent by their manufacturing or their contractors' manufacturing method/tolerance...etc.

One on here and one linked in this thread on Reddit.. If you found 2 positive thats great, but if we have 50% negative feedback that still pretty disappointing.. Early numbers, and I guess we will find out shortly what the rest look like as I imagine a lot are on the way to customers currently.

I cant imagine a company ever publicly saying that one version is better than another of the same product for that exact reason. I would be willing to bet they took more time or extra care with those 15" models though. Time will tell. Looking like I'm just going to unfortunately hold out for a Carmel or SCC ruling in favor of overturning.

Let's look at (everything) this Reddit report critically. Two issues are reported, everything else is just water. FTF from 3 types of magazines. And poster did not elaborate if it was round that got stuck, or OOB because of bouncing. Say it's bouncing - then it's a known issue with Duramags, second brand was Crossmag (should not be named in civilized conversation) and then PMag. PMag is strange because they are most popular and nobody else reported it.
Second issue was bolt handle sticking - already known issue with private import or R rifles. I think I know why. But ppl rarely want to listen and understand how rifle manufacturing works. Hint - do you guys think that all exising HGs and bolt handles were discarded the moment someone relayed them user feedback, huh?

50/50 statistics here is misleading.

I don't know why ppl are worried. You did not know you're buying a rifle from a boutique manufacturer? I was well aware and was and still expecting some quirks like some mags incompatibility. So far I haven't seen the issues I was not expecting or issues I'm not ready to challenge. I made conscious choice to buy this not perfect boutique rifle over more reliable but ugly Carmel. I'm still waiting for mine. I know I will be a beta tester, and that I'm paying for this "privilege". This is the reality of Canadian gun ownership these days.

I wish buddy made it clear whether or not it was failures to feed or oob stoppages. Mine had had zero true failures to feed as the round fully chambers every time, the bolt carrier just bounces back/gets hung up just short of a true lockup and results in a dead trigger. Cant comment cause im banned on reddit lol.

UPDATE: It now works significantly better? Autistically fidgeting with the action might have cleared something up because with pmc m855 the rifle was clearing the 10 round duramags with zero issue. It only has hiccups now if my barrel is pointed more towards the sky and i rack the first round in it hangs up on a full 10 round mag. If i point the barrel at the ground and rack the first round in it chambers fine. Zero hang ups when shooting/use the bolt catch with the charging handle locked in place. If i drop the bolt with the bolt release with the charging handle loose on a full 10 round mag with the barrel pointed at an upward angle its a 50/50 hangup. Overall its getting better and i think the gun is going to work itself in.

Almost sounds like you have something tolerance wise going on. Id take that rifle home, check for burs, clean the heck out of it, lube it / spit on it, polish whatever you can if need be ( its new.. I know you shouldn't have to). Then send 2-300 rounds through it and log the malfunctions / issues and what circumstances the rifle hung up under.

By the sounds of your post, I believe you know not to slap in a fully loaded mag on a closed bolt.

Anyways, your updates are the closest that 90% of us readers are to "handling" an actual rifle. Keep us updated, hope you're enjoying the new tool.

I wonder if charging and releasing the bolt a couple hundred times on an empty rifle would be the equivalent of shooting for breaking in the return springs? Or would that cause some other undue kind of wear?

I see from another thread that the mfg uses a standard AR15 bolt, complete with gas rings. I wonder if you removed the gas rings if it might run a bit smoother, one less thing adding resistance in your BCG. Seeing as this gun is piston and not DI, the bolt rings don't really serve any purpose.

Interesting thought! I wonder if a bolt from one of our Canadian 180 variants would fit? If I recall correctly, they had no gas rings.

Yes, the bolt is identical and compatible with other AR15 bolt assemblies including the gas rings. While the rifle doesn't use an internal piston operating system, the gas rings are essential in keeping the bolt concentric with the bore. The bolt tail run is not designed to support and constrain the bolt assembly's movement so it is highly recommended not to remove the gas rings.
