Makasi mk15 initial overview and issues

Interesting thought! I wonder if a bolt from one of our Canadian 180 variants would fit? If I recall correctly, they had no gas rings.
No. AR180 type bolts have the cam pin at 90 degrees from regular AR15.

The gas ring drag is not an issue. OP needs to just shoot his rifle some more and I bet it will break in.

As you all can see, the finish is quite worn under the bolt carrier where it touches the rounds in the magazine. I highly suspect this is what is causing the failures to go into battery. Perhaps a nice polish job is in order?.

That's how all semi auto rifles look. I would put that on the low end of bolt carrier wear.

I dont see how polishing could hurt. take a dremel polishing cloth wheel, mother's compound, and go slow until you see some shine. I'm definitely going to do that to mines. any metal on metal contact is bound to benefit from slight polishing, so it can only accelerate that "break in" period.

I can also confirm failures to go fully into battery during the first range session. This appears to alleviate itself within 20 rounds for my example though. No other QC issues to report so far.

Another video here. Seems his has some trigger issues. First of hearing about this issue.

This one is the 15” handgaurd.

I watched the video and the first thing I noted was the exceedingly fast trigger-work. That led me to question whether that is in fact the stock, mil-spec AR15 Trigger that we are seeing, or did the OP swap in something else? Something lighter with a short reset, perhaps? Just wondering. I asked the same over on Instagram, as that is where the link took me to view it. Hopefully the OP will clarify....

The fella who posted the dead Trigger video did clarify over on IG by stating that it was a stock demo gun belonging to the local range, so not an after-market Trigger. This is therefore a new failure, although probably not that big a deal considering that the stock trigger is probably the first thing that most new owners will swap out for better performance. Still, it is nonetheless troubling to see a new, different failure from Brigade Manufacturing.....

I wanted it to work. I genuinely did. They seem to have some fairly serious bugs to work out. What's at question is whether they will work them out, or just dump and run from our market?

Oh the factory trigger does not work out of the box when I need it. No worry, just dumb few hundreds more to put an aftermarket one in because that is the first thing all gun owners would do

Does not sound right to me

The standard trigger and disconnector are always purchased from other vendors. Likely a disconnector problem here., and maybe the hammer spring too. Replace that little piece, if it doesn't go away then put in a full new trigger group with all new springs and it should work, unless got time to diagnose it one by one.

Actually this is not rare with mass produced stuff in the open commercial market.

Exactly, which is why I stated that it is no big deal. One need not replace the entire factory AR15 Trigger assembly if an upgrade is not desired - simply replace the broken Disconnector, or whatever the problem is, with an inexpensive replacement AR15 part and carry on. A malfunctioning AR15 factory Trigger is not a rarity, nor is it necessarily Brigade Manufacturing's fault that a subcontractor's Trigger part failed.....

Some of you (ryuflatron) need to temper your expectations while increasing your knowledge of common semi-auto rifle failure points. A broken, sub-contracted AR15 Trigger (usually the Disconnector) is not all that uncommon....

Not really. They sell you the part, they are responsible.

Here's some additional early Makasi experiences from my range session.

Gun was pulled out of the box and nothing has been done to it at all prior to firing.
First 50 rounds lots of light primer strikes.
After 50 rounds most of the light primer strikes cleared up. No light primer strikes have occurred in 200 rounds when the gun has cycled itself after firing.
Light primer strikes can be induced by using the bolt release to drop the bolt or when not running the charging handle aggressively.
When very aggressively running the charging handle everything seems to be fine. And to be clear, I don't mean just pulling it back to the end of travel and letting it go, you have to be pretty rough with it.
Light primer strikes can usually be avoided by tapping the charging handle forward.

I am expecting the gun to work itself in fully fairly soon and so far see no reason to regret the purchase.

Your experience seems consistent with most other reports I am tracking from new Makasi owners. All issues should clear up around the 200 round count.

Congratulations on your purchase! Good to hear that you.are satisfied thus far....

Most good ARs are test fired as part of the QC. Hearing all of these issues with the Makasi makes me wonder if Brigade is even test firing them as part of their QC process before shipping them out.

Brigade Manufacturing claims that they test-fire each rifle with 3 rounds of ammunition. We can debate the adequacy of a 3-round test-fire, however the fact is that they claim test-firing is conducted with the Makasi.
