What type of bullet is best for large game?

This is what you said. For Elk/Moose there are a plethora of unsuitable bullets.

For sure. If someone said they were gonna shoot one with a Nosler Varmageddon I'd tell them thats a bad idea. But there are a lot of suitable bullets and its hard to find one thats not gonna work.

124 to be exact. One of the highest currently here. Really says something about you.

Okay, thats better. 100 is rookie numbers.

I think it says something about everyone who blocked me too, like moderators joining in to drive threads further off topic to talk about me, divulging data about a user thats only available to the mods because of their axe to grind, and all of this because I said its hard to find a bullet on the hunting market that doesn't work lol

Again. Some are hunting to prove bullets. Some are proving bullets hunting. Big difference.

Where are you getting these “overall rates of failure “?

A collection of personal experiences both as the shooter and as the observer, and info posted by knowledgeable and experienced hunters like yourself.

If anyone has data suggesting the opposite, that most hunting bullets are easy to find examples of not working for big game, I'm all ears. Sincerely.

Can even say okay, in the case of the Bergers in your sig line, I'm willing to give you that one even though they have their fans haha

Wow, I can't believe how lucky people in the 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s......must have been to kill hundreds of thousands of animals with straight lead and cup and core bullets. Perhaps they were all liars???

I am no experts on bullets but I have more bone in my shed than that picture above and all were shot with cup and core bullets if that somehow makes an opinion fact.

I will say that I have never seen any bullets fail. I have seen them in multiple pieces when they should have stayed together and some very skinny wound channels that didn't provide as much damage as one would like. All the animals were dead so "failure" is an exaggeration at best. The over expanded resulted in animals DRT or a very short track. The ones that were lower damage pass throughs resulted is a long track job but enough blood from an exit wound to make it a non factor.

I shoot Interlocks in my 30-06, Core-Lokt in my 7x57 and Power Points in my 303. They are inexpensive, accurate and kill stuff. I picked up a 7 Rem Mag that I want to hunt with at least a few days this season. It shoots Norma Whitetail into clover leaf groups but I may look for something a little more stout for the bush hunting I do.

Thats the key distinction right there.

A bullet could fail more often than others....but still be rare enough that its not a serious consideration against using that bullet.

Apparently though, there are plenty of experienced hunters like you who have shot a lot of animals with run of the mill hunting bullets and have been perfectly fine for you.

That should probably cause you to do some self-reflection. It won't, but it should.

So should complaining about me in the thread instead of via PM,, when all I did was say something about bullets and it rustled a bunch of jimmies.

Its really interesting how people cry about someone and call them a troll over posts that were on topic, and continue doing so, when there's ample opportunity not to.

You can step up and be 125, dude. No need to subject yourself to me lol

You being an overall troll has nothing to do with your post about bullets. Your long term patterns are what tells the story 124 members ignoring you for a reason. That reason is pretty obvious.

Right lol. We're not having this conversation right now because someone started coming at me personally for apparently having no hunting experience at all....over having said most hunting bullets work just fine?

We can pretend none of the people who blocked me were doing any trolling of their own and I wasn't giving back anything I was getting, sure. If you like :) Hey, I'm the troll, not them.

While we're in the land of make-believe, lets imagine that no one ever spazzes out when confronted with arguments for opinions that go against the grain too. Let's do that.

Again, like a mod stepping in to drive a thread further and further off topic by helping keep it about a user they don't like and airing info such as how many people have them on "ignore" lol. Hey, since we're cool with divulging info like that now, who has the most? Is it me?

As the saying goes though, to be despised by the despicable is as virtuous as to be despised by the despicable. I can't say I feel bad that any of those people have me on ignore. On the contrary. And it should just be 126 or 127 instead of people crying about it instead of talking about the subject of the thread.

Well, I am locked out of the thread now, but of course people are still going to be allowed to keep postings insults about me...cause I'm the troll, right??

There is a reason premium bullets were invented. It was because of the garbage performance of existing bullets. I can’t imagine any PH older than 50 in Africa wishing for the good old days of bullets.

The resurgence in using marginal bullets on animals is a perfect example of how stupid the human condition really is.

OR we don't take marginal shots on NA game animals. If I were heading to Africa I would be needing a new rifle along with new ammo. Your passive aggressive use of the word stupid speaks more of your condition than that of the average outdoorsman using the most popular ammunition on the market. I don't recall you calling me stupid when you were at my home.

You should feel embarrassed.

Like many, I've used a bunch of different bullets. Some worked well, others not so much. I've seen Noslet BT's from a 243 work great on deer shot in the ribs and I've seen BT's blow right the eff up on a mule deer shoulder from a 7RM. I used Partitions for a long time with pretty good results except two 375 300 gr NP that got stopped by a big bear spine and while the bear died I kinda thought they should do better. I've seen lots of cup and core bullets kill animals but not that efficiently and for the most part lead core bullets throw a lot of shrapnel around in the meat.

I haven't tried every bullet out there of course but a long time ago I decided I didn't want a bullet that worked when everything went perfectly- almost any bullet will do that- I wanted a bullet that will work when things go wrong and shot angles aren't ideal.

I used Barnes X bullets and yes, they could be finicky to get to shoot well and back then mono bullets were kinda new so most people including myself didn't really get the idea of dropping down in bullet weight to help the X bullet do it's thing so while everything I shot with them died sometimes it wasn't a spectacular kill unless hitting shoulder bone.

TSX, TTSX and LRX totally changed that and that's mostly what I use for a couple of reasons- they get the job done from any shot angle and they don't throw shrapnel through the meat.

I actually really like the performance of the Nosler Accubond, I think they are far better bullets than partitions because they are more accurate and the bonding keeps them together better than the H style partition which loses virtually it's whole front end and I've recovered them with no back lead core as well. If there were no mono bullets I'd probably use Accubinds and just deal with the shrapnel.

While most stories about mono bullets "penciling through" are just people repeating stories they have no personal experience with, I also have seen first hand accounts of it and I don't doubt it has happened, especially in the days before Barnes stuck a blue plastic tip on the bullets. Hollow points of every make have done weird things when they hit bone and closed the tip so expansion was not optimum.

On the same note there are lots of first hand experiences with non mono bullets failing, sometimes spectacularly failing. Don't forget that the Godfather of Premium Bullets- Mr Nosler himself- created the partition after multiple standard bullet failures on an Alaskan moose.

Myself and my hunting group has had absolutely great results with Barnes TSX, TTSX and LRX bullets for many years using cartridges including .223, 243, 260, 6.5 PRC, 7-08, 7RM, 308, 300magnums 375 Ruger and etc etc. Killing deer, moose, sheep, goats, elk, black bear and grizzly. The few bullets we've recovered usually look like a Barnes advertisement with perfect expansion and penetration. Opening the chest cavity often reveals massive damage, indicative of both velocity and expansion. "Lung soup" as Bartell and I proclaimed it after gutting one deer.

So I'm never going to be convinced by someone with no personal experience blabbing away about how modern mono bullets penciling through is "known issue."
