Who hates a .270 Winchester?

I own a .270 and while I do not use it much any longer I did for a long long time. Having the opportunity to hit game a distance and maintain energy is a great thing. But I will admit it is a "gap" cartridge. I can down load a 30 cal, and up load 6mm to achieve the same however with that being said why NOT fill the gap lol

I like the comment earlier that most all of the centrefire cartridges based on either the 3006 or 308 case are entirely suffcient for nearly all north american game ......

With usual caveat of proper bullet construction and well plqced shots within the cartridges range

Aure one can blather on and chest thump over various cartridges and rifles .....but it is just that

270 is a great flat shooting high energy cartridge with widely available ammo of various bullets
Anyone looking down on it is foolish

There are some animals in Canada and elsewhere which one can legally hunt with the 308 that they cannot with the 6.5 Creedmoor

That was the practicality that came to mind for me. In the sense that one could give you more options than the other in that way

BC has the bison regulation, 175gr minimum bullet weight + 2000 ft lbs energy @ 100M

Basically weeds out the 270 & 30-30 Win

Stupid regulation that doesn't factor in bullet construction. A 308 Win 175gr Sierra Matchking is legal, a 270 Win with a 140gr Barnes TSX is illegal

Definitely! At least the 7mms qualify. i think Yukon has a 30 cal limit as part of their rule.

I was being careful to point out the legal requirements and not yknow, actual real world requirements. Would shoot anything a 308 is legal for with a 270 or 6.5 CM.

I bought only one rifle in 270 back in '78, a Husqvarna 1900 that I wanted for 200 yd gong work & running deer target shoots. The bugger shot well fer me, but I just couldn't cotton up to the cartridge due to bullet selection at the time and powder consumption.
Never hunted game with 'er though. I've always taken meat critters inside 100 yds or so.

Owned a number of 308 rifles over the yrs and they can be very suitable for any game in NA in the hands of folks that know the 308 well
and are skilled hunters. Reloading options from 110 gr to 220 gr allow for a wide selection to suit ones fancy for their uses.

Wonder if these 220 gr factory loads are available here. Bison medicine sure enough.

Would be interested to see how they did!

My pick would be a 175gr LRX but it would be quite a comparsion, maybe its better!
