How the hell do you remove the damn thing? I have the castle nut pliers and have the nut loose but the thing wont budge! Almost like it's welded on, anyone els have this problem so I don't feel alone? It's not the end of the world if i can't get it off, but it would be nice.....

unless you have an early rifle it IS welded on. turn the rifle over and look at the underside. you should see 2 "halo's" at 5 and 7 o'clock the flash hider has holes drilled here and fill welded in. these need to be ground out before you can remove the flash hider.

Ya I see what you mean, thanks for the info, this will save me a headache!

These welds may vary from being superficial, to being very strong and hard as well. I would suggest that you not try to remove the flash hider unless there is a very good reaon to do so, and if you do decide to remove it, keep in mind that the FH may be destroyed in the process, so a replacement should be available just in case.

Mine was welded too and was very hard like tiriaq said. I had to take a carbide cutter to get it out!

Really shouldn't be THAT difficult. Drill directly into the center of each of the two welds. Try to get most of the way through the FH but not into the barrel. Take a good hard piece of wood and use it as a drift. With the barrel in a vice or being held securely by a friend, put the block of wood against the FH and give it a solid whack with a big hammer. Mine was a little tight and took about four whacks before it shifted. Then just turn castle nut, whack FH, repeat until removed. No reason you shouldn't be able to reuse it, but it will have two ugly holes on the underside.

Almost looks like someone read the M14 FAQ & Tip Forum. :D ;)

This is basically what I wrote to help people remove the Flash suppressor.

When I did mine, it came off intact. I covered the holes from the inside with masking tape, and filled the drill holes with JB Weld and then filed/sanded the excess down. A little paint and it looked good as new............

But as mentioned, you have 50/50 chance of buggering it up getting it off...............

SKBY.

Will a USGI hider fit on if you use the Norinco nut? If so why on earth would anyone want to reuse a bayo lugless Norinco hider anyway?

Yes, it will work............just re-use the Norc Castle nut.

If so why on earth would anyone want to reuse a bayo lugless Norinco hider anyway?

Remember that the Norc Flash Suppressor openings are already at National Match specs and don't need to be reamed out like the USGI Flash suppressors..........................besides, there is not that much call for mounting a bayonet these days.............

Doesn't everyone read everything ever written by Skullboy before they post anything on the boards. Cause if they don't, their #### might fall off.:)
