Looking for a new 17 HMR, lets get some opinions!

I did find a CZ 457 Vamint in 17 hmr. The barrel profile tickles my brain in the right spot plus I like the LOOK of the mags better.

I Know they will both shoot well, the tikka can swap stocks much easier, ect.

Difference of 20 bucks... NEW. If you dont include the discount at Cabelas then its a bit more in favour of the tikka

Bergara gets my vote. 2 mags with gun. Far better mags than Tikka. Better stock than Tikka. My son has Tikka I have Bergara.

CZ would be my 2nd choice

I almost pulled the hammer on a bergara a couple times, the heavy barrel with the target stock version, they look really nice.
Then I shot a buddy's Tikka with the ACC stock, and damn that thing was nice to shoot, and accurate as hell, but well above my budget lol.
I've been sticking with the CZ's, they always seem to shoot really well, hold out for nice used ones, 452/455's under $500 I've never been disappointed. Not tactical looking, just wood and steel, decent triggers (not perfect but decent) and very well made all around.
Did pick up a couple 457 new, cheapest ones on sale, they are not too bad, they are growing on me. New take off barrels and stocks off the EE have been really decently priced, I like the modularity, can put together a lightweight hunting rig, or a heavy Varmint/Target rig for whatever the day requires.

So you beat me to it! LOL I PM'd them about it, Mostly to make sure they had the thread cap still
I've bought off him before, somehow he gets alot of nice CZ 452/455's, sometimes the price starts higher and several price drops and bumps it's in my wheelhouse lol.
This was one I was kind of looking for, not the rifle in question specifically, I needed a 455 Varmint stock, they are hard to come by, I was looking into an MDT field stock but they are $400, this works out better with the whole rifle, price was right for me.

I recently picked up a CZ457 Ergo in 17HMR. Amazing accuracy with most loads but mine really favours the Hornady 17grain. I bought it as a grouse and rabbit rig so it is mounted with a VX Freedom 1-4X20. At 50 metres the shots cluster under a dime but I am sure a bit more scope would give me tighter groups at 100 metres. This is my first CZ and I am impressed. Next will be the MTR, also in 17HMR, to set up for gophers at longer ranges.

My Browning T-Bolt 17HMR vrs. a 10/22 at about 70 yards. Wind was a factor that day but he got really deflated... His rifle has lots of mods... Mine is stock with the exception of my polishing of the bolt pin mechanism and I have better glass.. Cheers

Good day. I was looking for that model and it never seems to be available. If I may ad a few points, there is no match ammo made for 17HMR. There would be no need for a match chamber if there is no match ammo.
I am presently looking for a CZ 457 varmint in 17hmr. I would suggest a varmint version over match in 17HMR.
In 22LR it’s totally different as there is match ammo available.
Cheers and good luck.

i’ve had a 452 and a savage. both shot great. the cz is a better quality. i sold them both because i didnt care for the cartridge.

gopher patch is about the only use i found and it was good at that. but 22 semis fit the bill with more fun.
Sounds like my story; no gophers in southern Ontario, I had a couple ground hogs, one out a bit past 100 yards, the other between 50 and 75, neither were clean kills. I'm back to using the 6.5 x 55 with 85 gr JHPs, runners don't happen any more, and certainly very effective on coyotes.

17 HMR worked great on paper, and would be perfect for Gophers.

I shot a friends Bergara .22, a new rifle, he asked me to try it out and give my honest opinion. Accuracy was on par with CZ, however the fit, finish and feel was not. It felt like there was a lot of friction in the bolt, almost like sand. He agreed, sold it that week and bought a 452 with which he is quite happy.
