Visited a friend over the weekend. He is setting up a man cave, and has recently purchased a Lyman kit, including the a/n press. After hefting it and reading some reviews, I have one waiting when I get home. I have a Spar-t Lyman and the newer version of it, so it’s not that I am press poor, but you guys know how it goes. I’ll probably get a spare turret as I reload for many different calibres.

I use one for my pistol ammo, 9mm on one side and .357 on the other all I have to do is change the shell holder. The rifle food goes through a rock chucker and a arbor press

When you do pistol reloading on the turret press do you do one cartridge and turn the turret or do you do all of one step for a batch?

I love mine, at first the problem was too many open holes, now the problem is not enough heheh at least that is easily solved with more turrets as obtaining more dies (and reloading in general) is addictive in a positive way!
At the moment it has 3 calibers with 2 dies each (fl sizing/seating) as well as a RCBS bullet puller and Lee universal decapping die filling the last two. Not a fan of the priming system on it so I just removed it, and use a table mounted RCBS primer instead. Just added 3 more calibers to the stable but swapping out is the way to go for now as I would rather spend on components than another turret but it is on the wish list for one day.

I turn the turret for all four dies, by the time my powder charger spits out a load I'm ready with the next empty shell. I know people on here will say there are quicker ways, but it's my cool down after a hard work week

I have an old Lyman All American turret press. Holds 4 dies. I do my 32 SW long on it.
I have another identical press set up for 32 H&R mag.

I usually do 100 at a time because my old arm gets tired…so I resize 100, turn the turret bell the mouth on all 100, turn the turret, seat the bullets (I’m just telling you the press steps) turn the turret, crimp all 100

Then a day or so later make another 100

I think I have 3 of those presses…

Kjohn, I used a turret press for years. The only reason I went away from it I was no longer loading 223 and 7.62 Nato for semi auto riles.

So when a new in box Forster showed up at an estate sale, the turret press was removed and sold .

I didn't get much money for it, mostly because most people don't trust them to be accurate, which is a mistake on their part.

Relegating them to pistol ammo only is a mistake IMHO, but if you are going to use different turrets for die storage, you won't have that problem.

I didn't do it, but one fellow I knew with deep pockets used different turrets for several cartridges. Each turret had a powder throw and dies. He did each cartridge without removing it from the case head holder. He was loading for himself, his wife, and three sons, all of whom shot a lot of ammo.

His end product wouldn't have won matches, but they were certainly accurate enough for hunting everything from gophers to big game out to 300+ yards.
