Is this where we are heading with IPSC..?

The Shooting Sports are weathering a mass extinction event...

IPSC, 3 gun, IDPA, Steel Challenge, CAS etc etc etc are all dying by government design...

This is what "they" want...

Even over the relatively short time I have been competing (since 2019) I have seen a steep decline.

IPSC has dwindled. 3 Gun is decimated.

Even our local club semi serious events went from maybe 25+ people at the peak to 3-4 by the end. Now they are "paused" due to lack of support (don't blame the organizers as it takes time and effort to make these things happen so with so little support what is the point).

I hope IPSC can hang on, but it’s difficult to see how it can survive without the infusion of fresh blood. The handgun ā€œbanā€ is going to eliminate the next generation of shooters.

Sad times. Had a lot of fun at those matches. Wish I didn’t have to give it up.

That said, the archery thing does look interesting… Legolas was always one of favorite characters…

It has killed the next generation of handgun shooters (and most likely PCC shooters too).

The only ways into IPSC competition in Canada now are Mini Rifle and Shotgun. Shotgun is awesome but I have found this discipline is not well supported (at least not in my locality) which is a shame. If I had to guess as to why I would say that not everyone enjoys the physical demands of blasting 100 - 150 rounds of 12 gauge per day and ammo costs start to add up.

So that leaves Mini Rifle. Ammo is cheap and the physical demands from recoil are pretty well non existent.

Even PPC. When I started to shoot PPC provincals in 2019. Was over 40 people that would attend. This year there was 5. Had to pull out due to equipment failure.

I have watched but never participated in IPSC.

Never could understand why they shoot relatively expensive 9mm when 22 cal would be so cheap and easy.

Counting holes in a piece of cardboard or ringing a gong does not need a lot of power.

Quite unlike the old days of IHMSA...................which sadly went down the proverbial drain.

Because it is a sport with rules. It was cheaper then. Only optics were on race guns. Could load 1000rds for under 150$. Doesn't matter with 22LR. Nobody new can get into it.

Nobody can get into any caliber of handgun but Shotgun and Mini Rifle are still viable options for new shooters.

With all the banning I have found there is a preconception amongst the general population that there are no sports left because "everything" has been banned but that isn't true.

I know when I took my BB course there was a range nearby to the course that was setting up with the appropriate business license to acquire pistols to loan out to people wanting to take their Black Badge and then compete with that handgun. Is it feasible for IPSC governing bodies to do the same thing on a larger, provincial or national, scale? The CFC had provisions for loaning handguns, and I'm not sure the rules around renting instead of loaning, but it may help slow the death of the sport if it was advertised that this is an option for anyone to get into it
