Just ordered a Norinco M14 from Frontier (great customer service from Marlin I must say!) and should have it home for Thursday! Can't wait.....so when I get it should I strip it and clean everything? Also have been thinking (due to a thread on here that saw a CZ858 painted)) about painting the stock with black truck liner (I will be investing in a nice stock later on), get a more tactical look from it. We will see though!

Welcome from another newbie to Norcs! I took mine out bone stock and got 2moa!!! But for the most part, I'm usually too excited NOT to strip it down and clean it at least twice before I get a chance to get to the range!

Of course you must take it apart and clean it.Even if its sparkling clean.This is how you become one with your M14s.Only then can you enter the brotherhood.Yada Yada.Great choice buddy take it apart and learn what makes it tick,every time you do that you learn something new.
I just painted one 5 rd mag with the black truck liner, it looks and feels good. I'll paint the fiberglass stock later, but for the wood stock, is it good to paint with the truck liner? I have the same question...
The only reason I am thinking along these lines is due to the cheap wood used on the stocks that gets dinged up pretty easy, and seeing pics of it used on other wood stocks I think it would look pretty good. I intend to invest in a JAE stock later, love the look of it.
Bed Liner
Bed liner looks really good if you hold the spray can far away and mist it on so it is VERY orange peeled. After many many coats it looks like skateboard tape and if thick enough is VERY tough. My only concern is that chu wood is to soft a base underneath and dings would cause adhesion problems.

I agree I have a synthetic stock on the way, and never bothered with the wodd one for over 2 years, my new M14-S arriving in may, (yes a second one, lol) will be left with the wood stock until I buy another synthetic.
Learn all about it, download the Abbotsford Clinic 2004 and watch it over and over again. Get used to my stale jokes since I'll be up in Ottawa mid-March for another clinic.

I have to say the wood on my M14 looks pretty good, the only problem is you can put a mark in it with just your nail. That is why I was thinking the truck bed liner would not only look good but be very durable....we will see I may just leave it until I get a real nice one.....
One thing though I took it out on the weekend and test fired it, it would not feed from the mag, I am still trying to figure out why.....wish it came with another mag to see if it is just the mag itself causing the issue.

look under Kanadian stocks in this section of the forum, my stock is the camo stock, although it's in the mail now, it looks sweet
Mil surplus, fired perfectly if I loaded it individually but kept ramming the bullet into the chamber wall....I will have to take it out again see if I can see a reason.
