I'm looking at the Stag Model 3R from Arms East but also have my eye on the Armalite Model 15A4C from Wolverine Supplies. What would you choose and why? What rifle do you think will be more accurate? Quality differences? Personally I like the Armalite better, but I'd like to gather some more expert opinions......Thanks!

6 of one......1/2 dozen, what? Something like that.

Armalite. Since you stated you personally like it better, everytime you pick it up it will be a more satisfying experience.

I want the version without the fixed A2 front sight, mainly because it looks like it would get in the way of optics. Anyone who owns an ar15 with a 16" barrel and a fixed front a2 sight, could you please tell me if the sight will get in the way of low-mounted optics (by "get in the way" I mean your sight picture)?

Here is a pic if you don't know what I mean:

And do all the Armalite's and Stag's sold in Canada come with fixed stocks? How easy is it to swap them out for collapsible?

You have to raise the optics a bit if you're planning on using optics with the A2 front sight. It's really not a big deal though. Check out the pictures in the photo gallery part of the forum.

I'm going to go out on a limb and estimate about 95% of people keep their A2 front sights because of the whole 'why screw with a good thing' rule.

I was afraid of that, but I plan on mounting some optics as low as possible. I can always add the A2 sight later on if life if I get the version with the rail instead of the sight.

Don't the buttstocks just screw in? I've seen the collapsable ones not attached to a rifle and they have large threads on the end that go into the reciever.

That's what I thought, but do the fixed A2 styles have that same threading so a simple swap-out can be done with a collapsible buffer tube? Or will the lower have to be modified somehow?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is the following all I will need to preform this swap:

-Collapsible Butt
-Buffer Tube
-Buffer Tube Wrench

Buffer tube wrenches make it easy but I put my first one on with a strap wrench. I bought a proper CAR Stock wrench for the second one though. Don't forget, you also need the proper CAR buffer and spring, the A2 buffer is too long and non-compatible.

Good thread. I was going to start one exactly the same.

I'm looking to get an AR within 4 wks. Local shop has Bushmaster (P&D). Also have been looking at the DPMS/CMMG combo @ Questar. Would like to get feedback on either of these rifles, and any other possible options for me. What about Rock River & Dlask.

Does Arms East still sell Stag. Sent email & voice mail. No reply yet.

What about modifications. Is there one brand that has more options available, or are they all interchangeable (quad rails, barrels, grips, stocks...etc).

Been saving for a few months, so not really interested in placing an order and waiting for 2 months.

Any info would be appeciated.

For mods, not an issue with any of the brands your looking at. AR-15 are like computers with windows XP... Plug and play :D

There was many comparisons done privously on all of these brand, search it a bit, you will find all your answer.

For Dlsak, there is a lot of happy campers and some a lot less happy, once again, search the forum for Dlask

I have dealt with Walter at Arms East, excellent guy to deal with, and STAG are awesome for the price. Well worth the wait

Ya, I realize that now....I was trying to remember from my Army days what the internals of a C7 vs. a C8 were.....Thanks for jogging my memory! Now I'm stuck on trying to figure out what length of barrel to get, 16 or 20 inches!.....I think the 16 incher will suit my needs, 100-200 fps velocity difference isn't going to make a huge difference and I can always get another upper down the road.....It's going to be fun moding this rifle, so much on the market these days :D

If you go to Demigodllc.com there is a good article on an Armalite rifle there.

Also, I just picked up a bushmaster from buffalo. I had to wait 3 months but when I bought it in november they had a great sale. They sold me a bushmaster M4 with tactical rail, BUIS, Aimpoint comp M3 with cantelever mount, rail guards, surefire G2 with rail moune and verticle grip for $2000 tax in. I bought it when our dollar was 1.10. I probably saved 500-800 dollars. If you live in Ontario and can drive to buffalo to pick one up its worth the wait. They do all the paper work for you and all you need is your ATT and import certificate which you can apply for one online. Very easy process. All you need is patience. Customs didnt give me any hassle. In fact all I did was pay the duty ($200) and customs never even looked at the gun. I couldnt believe it. At the buffalo gun center they had bushmaster, RRA, DPMS, SW M&P T. My firearm has benn 100% relieable. I've put almost 500 rounds through it so far without any issues.
