Russian SKS45 long thread.

I thought it was to good of a thing just got my SIR catalouge saw the price and lost my mind I talked to the sweety at SIR she told me they had orderd 600 and I was 300and change on the list maybe it was there second hellping of 600 well time will tell I was on there backorder list 2 years ago for over a year that one didnt work out also fingers crossed

Seems like so many people here are concerned about the price , I ordered mine and paid for it from frontier , I have a few skss' and honestly it doesnt bother me at all that frontiers are few bucks more , all I know is that when that shipment comes in one of those fine Russian rifles has my name on it and I'm gonna be out at the range as soon as I get it to do some shootin!
It's to bad we all didnt live in the same city , it would kinda be fun to get everyone off here that ordered their sks' together for a shoot! That would be probably over 100 of them !!!

Trevor/anyone: Are they really that much more at Frontier after you pay the shipping etc at SIR? I am making the leap of faith for a Russian SKS and would love to know.

yes, there is a significant difference , for two SKS45 see page 5 on this thread .

having said that, the chances are you getting one off SIR is smaller cos you are placed on backorder while with frontier there is a better certainty of getting one or even two, :D

if i were to order one now , i would order one from each dealer and when the boat comes in , check with both and see what are the chances of getting one and then decide which order to keep and which order to cancel, maybe if finances improve keep both.:dancingbanana:

Frontier also has free shipping plus 10% off 7.62x39mm ammo with the purchase of an SKS which in my opinion evens things out a little bit between the two stores.

The cost difference is indeed small, and I don't presume Frontier is making as much profit, as SIR does, with it's large corporate Backing, from Cabala's.The reason I am buying from SIR, is that I have a better chance, of getting a nicer rifle.Frontier is picking through, the ones he is ordering, and giving the best pieces, to those that are paying more, for collector grade rifles.Sir is just grabbing one from the heap, and shipping it out.Sir is a better deal even if the price was the same.

it wasnt a consideration when their price was 10% higher than canammo but now that canammo sold out , yeah , again availability comes into play.

basicly what im saying, things has changed now .... cheaper means squat if they arent available. price differences between the two dealers are nolonger an issue , availability is . frontiers price , altho higher is still a good price and you are most likely to get one off them.

Anyone know if the length of pull on the Russian rifles is longer than the Chinese? I always found the Chinese length of pull to be kinda short. Takes some getting use to NOT crawl the stock like most North American shooters do...

Cheers

hate to be the barer of bad news but its the same.

it was originally design short by the russian and everybody followed it except for the yugo m59/66 , now from what i heard on this board that the reason why the russian design it that way is to compensate for the extra bulk on the shoulder by layers of clothing and heavy coats .

i use a inch rubber pad , its screws to the end of the buttplate , it only cost a few dollars.

GO HABS GO !!!

Ya lol I cut too much off, now I have to cut an inch of my SKS :p

But seriously, I find it just perfect for me when I bring it in the thick bush in Nov. with my thick hunting jacket on looking for whitetails. So buy a butt pad, or buy a thick jacket.

GO HABS GO !!!
Habs take the Bruins tonight !!!!!!!!!!

I emailed SIR about what number I was on the list, and if the original order of SKS's was already spoken for, and this is the response I got:

"Everyone who has already placed their order, will be receiving their SKS as
of today"

So I guess I'll stick with SIR instead of going with Frontier.

thats not the impression jay got from them but if you say thats what they said is true then thats good news.

Well, I broke down and bought one from Frontier... They guaranteed me a rifle, unless the whole deal falls through, they don't have a back ordered list, yet... I couldn't handle the stress of not knowing if SIR would come through for me or not...

Definitely NOT what I was told!!! The girl on the phone was VERY clear, I was on a backordered list and NOT guaranteed a rifle... That's why I called Frontier and made sure I was NOT backordered on their list and was guaranteed a rifle from Frontier, unless EVERYTHING falls through and NO rifles make it in to Frontier...

I'm now wondering why there are conflicting stories coming from SIR. IMHO, they should be upfront and honest with people placing orders!!! If it's backordered, I want to know, if they are sourcing more units, I want to know... If there is no guarantee that I will get a rifle, I want to know! I'd like to think they are not just taking orders "hoping" to be able to source more rifles and then disappointing everyone who was on the "backordered" list...

Do you remember when you placed your order Millow? I placed mine on Feb 29th, received a letter for back order once but have not been updated at all by them on anything really. I've been reading this thread constantly and i just want my SKS!!

I specifically asked about this "letter" AND the number that I was on the list... I was told, NO letter was being sent out AND that I was backordered into the 300's...

Just trying to stay on top of this issue guys, I don't want ANYONE to be disappointed. Maybe SIR sends out letters to those that are guaranteed rifles and simply keeps a list of those on the backordered list, like me???

Edited to say, the only "confirmation" I have from SIR is the order receipt that I printed off after I completed my order online... No indication on it of what # I am or anything else, just 1 Russian SKS and the price with taxes shipped to me...

Cheers
Jay
