Hey folks,
I have a NP29 coming from another cgn'r. I'm hoping to improve on what he has done on it so far. His account of it is that it is finicky. So once I get it running smoothly again...I'd like to start fitting it to my personality a little.

My initial survey of 1911 parts stores has me all confused...
My question is, how do I know if parts from a commander or govt will fit? will parts meant for a 45 double fit in a 9mm single? mainly talking about triggers, hammers, springs, sears etc...the obvious bigger stuff I can figure out.

Though, new to the 1911 platform, not new to pistols. Why 9mm 1911? Because of economies of scale, I already shoot the glock in 9mm and have all the reloading dies in that cal.

If you go to brownell.com and punch in 1911 parts, you will see that certain parts are available either in .45acp or 9mm/.38super.
For the most part, if you're given a choice then I assume the part must be different.
Eg extractors, ejectors etc.

The only parts on a 1911 that are calibre specific are the slide ,barrel , ejector , extractor and the firing pin.
The trigger and the mag release from a 1911 will not fit a double stack gun. The trigger bow and the mag release are not wide enough.

The difference between a commander and a government model is the length of the slide and the barrel. All of the frame parts ( sear . disconector , beaver tail , hammer , safeties ) will fit a commander and a government model gun.

Thanks. useful information as always. Now I can order from brownells without fear.

Norinco 1911 clones are basic 1911s. Apart from the 9mm specific parts, most any 1911 parts would be fine. For example, the rear sight dovetail will accept anything intended for a Colt. The front sight uses the narrow tennon style.
Don't know what is meant by finnicky, but the first place to look if an auto has problems is the magazine. If you are ordering from Brownells, get some Metalform magazines, they are much better than the originals. Keep your not specifically controlled parts total to less than $100.
I would suggest not spending a lot of money until you have the pistol, and decide what it really needs.
