Polish m44

I have read that the Poles used linseed on their m44 stock. Why then is mine wearing shellac under cosmo? Refurb maybe?

Maybe; in any case, I'm sure it would look a lot better if stripped and recoated with BLO. Unless it's a collectable... then you'd want to make sure you are putting the historically correct stuff on

I don't think I will have any choice on whether to refinish it, half of it fell off with the cosmo. Maybe it was not shellac but some kind of preservative.

Poland also exported this model to other nations. It may have received it's shellac elsewhere.

It does have have some old pitting that would indicate use of some sort.

I have two Polish M-44's one has a stained stock, the other is unstained. The first few Polish M-44's were stained and did not have brass insert in the sling slots. These are rare. Which one do you have ?

funny, my buddy just bought one without inserts(I think), anyway could anyone point where to find what is its worth?

In the 80's new in factory grease Polish 44's [famous factory #11]were $100I;m sure they would be 3X that now.Unfired of course...................Harold

I remember them at the Renfrew gun show for $65. Early 90's

milarm had them around 2001 new in the grease for $150.

Price seems to be about $250 now, still a bargain.
