Got tired of the long barrel on my CZ858

Does anyone recall if you're allowed to drill holes in the barrel, so this design could work as a functional compensator?

Yes, you are allowed to port a barrel without having the barrel considered to have been shortened. (same inside diameter and the grooves still are present)

Nice job !

Did you cut & re-threaded the barrel or was it just to move back the front sight and make a custom "front-threaded" brake (without cutting the barrel). From what I understand, the original barrel is 482mm, so a maximum of 12mm could be taken away.

Didn't cut the barrel . just turned it down in a lathe far enough to move the f/sight back

I think I see where you are going with this.

If I follow you, your idea is to:

-have the barrel turned to diameter
-move the Front back
-thread the fake flash hider
-port the barrel where the flash hider is

Interesting.....................

Right, ans since I have none of the machinery or know how to do it, I'm wondering who's the best pick to do it. I don't want to end up with a ruined barrel.

I'd like to see detailed photos of this and have barrel dimensions that worked. I don't even know what it took to remove the barrel. We could bet a gunsmith to make us Krinkov "suppressor" barrels.

My friend, if you read all the post, the barrel WAS NOT removed from the reciver to do what #1bcshooter did.

i like it .... how did you remove and re-install the barrel to the receiver?
Didn't remove from receiver

I think thats the key here. Having equipment that does not require reciver removal.

Also, should one have the barrel ported, you might want to coat the tuned down barrel with something so that the corrosive effects of commonly available supluss ammo would be combated.

Further, depending on price, I like the idea of a stainles break, or even one that is plated.

Just my thoughts.

The CZ858s are just a straight steel barrel aren't they? What kind of corrosive protection could they have?

You are correct, I was getting the 858 & the 58 mixed up. However, is there not someone out there offering the Non-restricted length barrels that are now chrome lined, VZ-58L if memeory serves??

Just some thing to think about

I have had the 20" barrels of a couple of SKS's modified in a similar fashion. I stripped the gun down to the bare receiver with barrel attached.

A local machinist used a 4-jaw attachment on his lathe so that barrel removal was not necessary.

I have had barrels shortened (to legal minimum), moved front sights back, and threaded the ends for 1/2-28 flash-hiders. Obviously the muzzles were re-crowned.

Any good machinist or gunsmith with a lathe can do this and it is very simple and low-cost.

However, I've never thought (until now) of boring out a flash-hider and using it like a sleeve over top of the barrel. I wish I had thought of that before, as it keeps the overall barrel length shorter.

Hi Guys . It's been a wile since I checked this post I started . If you want to do this set up its simple . Contact CGN member Kasat . He was the one who machined the fake muzzle brake (stainless) for me .I think it was around $70,00 shipped . remove the pins holding the front sight . Use a propane torch to warm up the front sight & tap it off the barrel . You can have the brake made to what ever length you want . Once you have the brake ,strip the gun down to a bare receiver & barrel . Take it & the brake & front sight to a machine shop or gunsmith with a lathe . have them turn turn down the barrel the length req to fit the f/sight with the brake . With the sight on And the brake on & tight I used a dremmil with a small cutter & through the pin holes cut the barrel to fit the pins . Then when completed I used Cummins engine company "Bluke" paint to re coat the end of the barrel/sight/brake area
.

I'll see if I can find them .
Here you go .First is after barrel & receiver were spun in lathe to turn down end to move sight back reassembled with sight at the rear
