So Sunday after brunch with the wife's friends, we decide to finally visit the Baron sports in the west island.

While I'm there, I decided to do an impulse purchase and pick up a 597 with the 30rd mag. I think the price was fair. Now I have to wait until this weekend before I can try her out.

Have fun with er, go find as many kinds of 22 ammo you can and buy a box of each and then you can figure out which type to buy the bricks in

Yeah, seems to be pretty standard with .22's. Their all picky about their ammo. My Mossberg's appear to be the only exception, they don't care what goes through them.

I'm kinda excited as this is my second "new" gun I have ever bought. Although I prefer the simpler internals on a 351k, I wanted something with bigger mags and still on a budget.

Looks good!

how about a range report on the Rem. 30rounder. Btw how much was it?

Range report will have to wait until Saturday. The 30 rounder was 20$ and I had the choice between black or clear. I didn't care much for either (I prefer "smoked") but the wifey preferred black.

At first glance it looks pretty light and plasticky, but appears to be solid enough. I haven't played with any other "hi-cap" rimfire mags before, so it's hard to compare. It does feel a bit more solid than the 10 rounders that came with my TOZ 78.

As a test I loaded it up with some dummy rounds and cycled it manually. Can't wait to give it a real beating at the range though.

Buy a Volquartsen Target Hammer. Worth every penny!

Yeah, I just found out they existed today...

I may very well purchase one for my 597: the trigger pull must be something like 8lbs, and while that may not sound like much, it's a sh*tload of trouble when you're trying to make 1 inch groups from anything beyond 25 yards.

Hey Montalban,

Where did you buy the Remington 30-round mag? Please let us know how the 30-rounder is after you break in this baby. :)

I have exactly the same rifle and color. You'll enjoy that baby.

Congratulations.

Cheers.

Cool.
I still love mine.
I've got an Eagle 30 rounder that's worked fine for me thus far. Mine is smoked, and if I was closer, I'd be happy to trade you my smoked one for your black one (my stock is black, not that carbon color)...

I replaced the extractor and trigger on mine, and it's worked much smoother ever since. I was getting some failure to ejects before doing so (after a thousand or so rounds).
Now, it's eaten everything I've given it, but I get the best accuracy/dollar with American Eagle hollow points.
