Should I clean after I remove Primer?

OK, Looks like I am going with dirty primer pockets this year. I will keep you in mind next fall. Surely you will find time over the winter to help me out:p It will only be about 1700 cases total.

I guess you can see why I don't do it.

I'm new to the game, so here's my question since we're on the topic:

For those of you who are cleaning the primer pockets, are you doing it with cleaning and/or reaming tools, or just removing the old primers and running it through the tumbler?

Oh and since I'm asking, if I wanted to pop out the old primer without re-sizing the case with the die, how do I do that?
 
Popping out the old primer and throwing the case in a tumbler will not clean the primer pockets, even if you forget about it all night:redface:

If you only want to deprime without resizing buy a universal depriming tool.
 
It is interesting to read how many guys do not clean the primer pocket. When I started reloading, I was told to always clean the primer pocket, and it is just part of the 'program' for me. I doubt I'll stop cleaning the pockets, but it is good to know it's not the end of the world if you don't do it.

It's a preference thing, but not nessecary - the bullet will go boom with or without a clean primer pocket as long as the hole is clear. I only spend that much time & attention to detail when it is mid January, and I am wasting the Sundays away creating the ultimate round.

When the season hit's, I am all about volume, and getting back out to the field. Cleaning the primer pocket is easily one of the first things I skip, the second being cleaning the brass to an ultra high sheen. Trimming overall case length is a close third.
