i just bought a model 14, .38cal masterpiece from the father in law:) he cant remember the year:confused: thinks its a 1976?
does anyone have any experience with this model? now i have to wait my 5-10 working days to bring her home:):)

Model 14's are the target version of the K frame in 38 Special, for many years they were the premium target revolver in 38. It'll have a patridge front sight on rib, adjustable rear sight, wide spur hammer (probably checkered) and wide, grooved trigger. They usually shoot very well indeed, work great with 148 grain hollow based wad cutters. Trigger pull should be pretty nice from the box, and nicer with age.

Have had a couple of these over the years. And shot many more. Always a nice, accurate S&W wheelgun. Sold my last one on here on the EE a couple years back. Have a S&W Model 586 6" with patridge sites to fill that niche these days. You will enjoy it.

Model 14,15,16,17,18,48,53 (all start without dash in 1957)
-1 1959 Change to LH extractor rod thread
-2 1961 Cylinder stop changed, hole in front of trigger guard eliminated
-3 1967 Relocation of rear sight leaf screw
-4 1977 Changed gas ring from yoke to cylinder
-5 1982 Eliminate cylinder counterbore

These are great guns and demonstrate why S&W was the best revolver maker in the world until they made all those changes in the last 10 years or so.

My K 38 (old name for Model 14 S&W) is quite accurate and out of a Ransom Rest would shoot almost as tight a group as my full house PPC gun, so I sold the PPC gun and shot the K 38 as both my Distinguished and Open gun till I quit PPC.

The gun got me High Distinguished at a major PPC match and I won't be selling it!

I very recently bought a 14-4(made in 77)off the EE here. Its in really excellent condition and came with original box and cleaning tools and the asking price was pretty good.Ive read about K38/M 14's over the years and have always had a hankering for one,and I must say that at first look Im really impressed,a real classic.I have a whole bag of 148 WC's loaded and am hoping to have a range outing over rhe weekend.

I really have a thing for the old smith and wessons, they are generally beautifully made and finished, and if one takes a bit of time and looks around you can find some good deals on guns that are often quite a bit cheaper than the newer smiths(and I feel are a whole lot more classy, but then I am a bit biased!)

ill be taking her to the range this Saturday:D:D its a 1976,14-4, i also get all the original papers and box. ill post pics and a range report.

because this will be my first range report, what should i list:confused: noob.
