Screw-in Choke Tubes

Hi,

I have a SxS shotgun (Baikal 12Ga) with fixed full/mod chokes. I hear that remington has refurb'd old Baikals to take choke tubes and are re-selling them as the SPR220...

Does anyone know how much it should cost to have this done to my shotgun... or if it's even possible?

Baikal and the Remington sold variation use the Colonial Arms "Tru-Choke" style tubes. Not a big deal to install but the older Baikals have chrome lined bores which is a bit of extra work to remove first before doing the final machining to hold the tubes. Chrome is hard on the cutting tools.
The bores on Baikals are slightly smaller than standard North American which makes the use of the Colonial Arms system instead of the Rem-Choke set up. Some European guns are so small that a special small size system has to be used called 'Thin Wall " chokes from Colonial Arms.

Measure (or have someone do it) the outside diameter of the barrels. If the O.D. is greater than 0.825 inches Tru-Choke tubes could be installed provided the bore is concentric with the O.D. Thin wall (Tru-Choke or Colonial) tubes can be installed in barrels with an O. D. of at least 0.810" (again the bore must be concentric with the O.D.). Also the bore must be no more than 0.728" for the thin wall tubes. The Baikal bores usually are less than that. Reliable Gun in Vancouver can install these tubes in chrome plated barrels.

The Remington Spartan line are new guns, not refurbished ones... For the cost of Thin-walled tubes and installation, why not just sell/trade yours and get a new Baikal for $499 with a Single Selective Trigger, instead of the double triggers.
