i picked up a .25-06 as my new groundhog gun, from last year's .223 700P.
any other .25-06 owners here?
what do you hunt with them? any factory bullet recommendations?

i picked up a few boxes of the Winchester 90gr. positive expanding point ammo for varmints, it looks pretty intimidating next to my old .223 :runaway:
ill be sure to lug my camcorder out with me when i go groundhogging.

Yup, got a ruger m77, target with a hogue over mould stock, legend 3-9x40.

This is my "long range" coyote gun and works very well. Will use it for deer, maybe elk as well.

My 25-06 works on deer (mulies and whitetails) and yotes for me, so it should do wonders for you on groundhogs. In a pinch, it can pick the head off a grouse at 75 yards too!

I had one up until 2 years ago (browning A bolt) and I shot 6 caribou over the course of 2 years with her. I think that I took more long shots with that gun than any other I have owned. She was just such a flat shooter that I felt completely confident. Oh yeah, I nailed a nice wolverine with her that I have in a natural pose mount. It was a great gun. I always used federal factory loads with 117 grain soft points. (not much selection of ammo way up here) I would definately feel confident using such a gun on deer and even elk at moderate distances. (with the heaviest bullets you can find)

Sheep, elk, antelope, deer, coyotes, wolves.....I've got a couple of them and really like the performance they offer. I've been shooting Trophy Bonded Bearclaws out of mine and am really impressed with the performance they offer.

While I don't have a 25/06, I do have a 257Roberts that gets pretty close to 25/06 velocities. I use if for deer only with 100gr Hornadys and 110 Nosler ABs.

I would think that most of the members here on CGN that own a 25/06 also own smaller calibers (for varmints) and larger calibers (for bigger stuff) and the 25/06 would be designated for deer sized game. It's one of those calibers that while being perfect for deer is a bit much for varmints and a bit small for moose.

My cooper 25-06AI is my yote and antelope rifle, great flat shooting cartridge. I use the 120gr sierra hpbt cause it shoots like a hot damn.
The hunter that turned me on to the 25-06 used it for everythin cept bears, watched him drop an elk way out there with one shot but I'll stick to my 300win for the big stuff.

tikka 695 stainless and synthetic.

use it as my primary deer gun, also good on yotes. :)

but I have a yote gun 22-250 and some bigger rifles for moose (7mmRM - 300WM) so the 25-06 gets its work out for deer.

I handload Noslers Balistic tips in the 115-120grn range for deer, but have recently decided to change to Nosler Accubonds of the same weight.

I shoot an AI version as well. Only coyotes and pasture poodles so far. Hopefully deer this fall though.

I really like the 110 Nosler Accubond and will be experimenting with the 100TSX in the near future. The 75Vmax is a fun little bullet for plinking/gophers/coyotes, not sure if it is available in a factory load though.

What's the new 25-06s specs? Pictures?:)

I went for a 25-06 in a Savage 112BVSS and put a Leupold VX-III, 6.5-20x40 Long Range with Varmint reticle. I got it primarily of long range varmint & predator hunting but :redface:admittedly so far all I've used it for is to 'punch' paper and shooting golf balls @ 185yds.:D
I haven't shot any factory ammo out of it but 117gr Sierra SBT's with IMR 4350 performes exceptionally well.:D:D

this is exactly why i went with the .25-06
i do my groundhog hunting in southern Ontario and wanted something more devastating than the .223 but still under the .270 caliber restriction.
........ I'm thinkin' a 270 Weatherby would even be more devastating and still fall still under the .270 caliber restriction.

too late :)

plus i wont be reloading for at least a couple months. im still working on my new reloading area and most of my heavy reloading equipment like presses are still down in the states, so in the meantime at least i can find .25-06 ammo in stores.

so far all i have been able to find in factory ammo are the winchester super-x 90gr and 120gr positive expanding point at around $26.50 a box (90gr shown in the photo at the top of thread).

i dont mind shelling out for a few boxes while i wait for my reloading stuff, i need to collect some brass anyway. although i have tonnes of .308 and .223 brass i have not one single .30-06 case, so i should keep an eye out for some inexpensive brass.

is 120gr the largest bullet you can load for these?
