Hello all,

I'm looking for a shotgun in 12 ga.

I love the looks of a O/U, however all the ones i see are super expensive.
Does anyone know of a cheap O/u?

I'm looking for a 300$ used price range. they all seem to be 600+

Is there a cheap model I can look for? or are they all just expensive?

i'm just a bush shooter, may try trap. not really gonna use it for waterfowl etc. mostly hunting the elusive beercan etc.

ANy idea's let me know.

Cheers,

Bondo

I bought a Bufalo SXS from Tradex and it was not a great buy. The barrels shot to the left and after 2 boxes of trap loads the safety engages automatically between shots.

The best thing a cheap O/U does is teach you the lesson to not buy a cheap O/U. You're better off with a beater 'name' gun than a new no-name gun.

Keep your eyes open, and I'd say Tradeex is your best bet.

Good point - cheap is cheap -

I have also been looking for a decent O/U for casual trap & as a camp gun - and spending $2K on a Beretta seems a little over the top. And I've heard that used clay guns are usually very, very used - so it can be difficult to get a good one.

Is there a decent O/U gun for around the $800.00 - $1K mark? The amount is over the first posters $300.00 budget, but I think $300.00 may be a bit low if quality is at all an issue.

Ahh, I gotta disagree with Grouse Man on this one. I bought a brand new Lanber O/U 12ga. for around the 400 mark and it works great! It's got nice engravings, good ejectors, nice wood, vent rib etc. Shoots very VERY well.

I've knocked down grouse, woodcock in heavy cover. And it's got about 3 wild turkeys under it's belt too. Great wingshooter!

Spanish Gun.

I agree. I bought a used Lanber for $250.00 on the EE and I've shot trap, grouse, beercans etc.with it and I think it was a great deal.

Look into Lanber they are inexpensive well made guns.

you can buy a much better SxS than you can an OU for your price range.
SxS guns also carry and balance better, IMO.
the only benefit to the OU design over the SxS is that both barrels are on the same horizontal plane.

I had a Remington SPR double 20 bore. Nice gun and made by baikal. Found it to be more course and heavy than the 12 bores I bought from Trade ex. Baikal's guns were "nicer" in the early days. (up to late '70s) The new ones are stilll very good guns just a little heavier and not fitted as well.

cheers Darryl

I been thinkin about one of the older Baikals at Tradex. I believe they are around 40 yrs old from what I have heard. Where are they finding thses in such great shape, and secondly, would you ever be able to find parts to fix one if something broke ????

HABS DO IT AGAIN TONIGHT !!!!!
