Can someone educate me on EOTech scopes?

you dont have to be lined up with the optical axis for it to have an accurate shot, the "reticle" will pretty much stay on target within an inch or so, no matter where it is on the screen (usually after 50 yards the "paralax" isn't an issue anymore)
the reticle is always reflected parralal to the "optical axis" to prevent from parralax error, and since it uses holographic diffraction, it doesn't require the double lens system that aimpoints or other high-end red-dots use to prevent parralax error. The double lens system will hinder light transmission due to the coatings they use to reflect the "red" color of the dot.
Also, since its using a laser generated "image", you can get the 1moa dot in the middle (with 65moa ring), whereas red-dots tend to not go under 5 moa, with the Aimpoints and Docter Optics sights (and a few others) as an exception.
Im not 100% sure if all my facts are strait, but that should give ya the jist of it

EOTechs are listed as paralax free.
These, along with most red dot type optics, are all about quick target acquisition. Both eyes open, no problem. The standard reticle is pretty handy. The ring is point and shoot, the 1MOA dot allows for a level of precision.

If you are colourblind, the EOTech is not the way to go. There is a tendency to set it too bright and thus the reticle is just too busy and distracting to be useful. There is a lot going on with a dot and the ring so unless you can set it quite faint and rely on the redness to see it rather than the brightness of the light it will become annoying.
Not likely the case here but I thought it worth mentioning for the sake of others who might find this out the hard way.

You can buy 3X and 4X magnifiers, but they are pricey.

In simple terms, they are a lighted reticle, in the EOTech's case a dot with a ring around it that when you place the dot on the target, the bullet will go where the dot is aimed.
They allow you to acquire your target very quickly while maintaining both eyes open to keep aware of your surroundings.
Imagine a laser sight like used to be popular on TV and movies but there is no dot projected, just the dot in the sight housing itself that only you can see but functions the same way.

basically, but they are much more advanced than iron sights (obviously
)no matter where the dot/reticle is on the "screen" (or the visible area you look through) is where the bullet goes. So you dont need a rock solid cheek weild in order to use them, like a magnified scope.
As with iron sights, you need to line up the 2 sights in order to get a representation of where your bullet goes, and if you head moves around you may lose the accuracy. With red-dot sights, or holo-sights you dont need to be completely in line with the optical axis, like you would with Iron sights
As long as you can see that dot, thats where the bullet goes

Becasue it projects a laser, it sucks out the battery rather quickly compared to Aimpoint.
And Eotech always have problem with holding zero and battery connection. After going through 2 eotechs and hearing their problems over the years, I will get an aimpoint instead. After all these years, they still cannot 100% root out all the problem.....see the latest 553 recall from the US Soccom.

But L3 has VERY good customer service. They have had a lot of problems with the battery terminals, and they're paying for specialists to go out to the US military bases around the world and fix it, no cost to the gov.
Now thats no excuse for "flawed" (if you call it that) design, but they are very effective at CQB and close range stuff.
Personally, i like aimpoint better anyways (more battle tested, and have been around long enough to work out bugs), but L3 has spent a lot of time making things right. They are comparativly a fairly new company, give them time, and they will get better
