What is with SF types and 1911's?

The reason you see so many 1911 fail is that there are so many manufacturers making them to different quality standards, that goes for mags too. Add to the fact that many have been tinkered with and it's no surprise. It's not a fault of the design.

Sig are made by Sig only, unless you count Norinco. How would you like Sig and Norinco thrown into the same basket?

Get a quality made 1911 and it'll stand up to any of the more modern designs easily.
 
I have a Colt Commercial Model in .45 that was manufactured in 1916 and it gobbles up any load I've fed it so far. I shot IPSC for 10 years and the only 1911's that I seen that didn't function well, were because of the owners handling them. It amazes me how somebody would have no problem dropping 2 grand on a handgun, then buy the cheapest sh!t ammo or magazines that they could find to save a buck. Then swear at the gun or the gunsmith for being a POS when the gun fails in competition. The only 1911's that fail are the ones with idiots behind the trigger.

My Colt Commercial Model still pumps lead down range 92 years after it was made, find a Glock that can say the same thing!!

My guess is .... It comes down to "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" .... I'm pretty sure you would find SF types packing Thompsons if they could.

I'm saying that the 1911 has held up much better than a 100 year old automobile would, though. I do agree that there are a goodly number of better combat pistols out there (reliability/ease of maintenance probably being the main areas), but that's not to say that the 1911 is totally ouclassed, either.

Being a person who has been in the middle east and has carried a gun there, and although the 1911 is one of the best, if not the best gun to physically carry in my opinion with the Hi-Power pretty much tied, I would take a Glock hands down every time for that type of enviroment. Glock does not need to prove itself, it has already done so. Then nor does the 1911, it also has done so. The Glock hit the market in what 1989 or close to that. Well it it has more then made its mark on the civilian market and proven its worth in the LE/military market. I have friends over there right now, both in Iraq and Afghanistan and have seen pictures of SF operators carry Glocks and 1911's. Now that beings said, when it comes to the US, there is such a mixed bag of handguns that the US uses, you cannot keep track.

For the record, I do not own either, I am a Sig fan, so you want the best, get a Sig.....

I thought I saw him carrying one in a few episodes a while back...I could be wrong. Just thought it was funny as this thread is pointless. Who's dad is better mine or yours? aheh! I read somewhere that a soldier shot plenty of enemy and not one dead guy ever got up and complained about the type of pistol used to kill him. Aheh! It was however a 1911.

BTW, in the new issue of American Handgunner, they are featuring on the front cover the new 1911 designed by and for the LA SIS "Special Investigative Services" manufactured by Kimber. While the official sidearm for the SIS is still the Glock, department personal are now authorized to carry either. Kinda cool looking but a huge rear sight for quick acquisition.
 
the only sf types I see using 1911's are on the tv show, "the unit". but then again, I don't get out much. ;)

the issue gun may be the glock, but the article says that the officers ponied up and bought 16 SIS guns, each
 
Probably easiest to just train everybody with a 1911 and keep it that way instead of switching to a whole new batch of guns.
I don't think any special ops forces would be unsatisfied with a P220 :)

And that is only 2 of the guys, Jonas has a SA Operator and Mac has what appears to be a stock 1911. Col. Ryan was seen in a few episodes with a Stock 1911 as well. Bob sports a Glock, Hector and Grey shoot Sigs. Oh wait, there are those darn Sigs again.............:D

heres one for ya all ! maybe US SF use it because they have it and its a sub sonic round ! better for silencers!!!!!!

as far as SEALS not using it because of corrosion........BS .......if they wanted they could have stainless one made

and I don't see the sig being any better in that regard .......the mags rust pretty easy in wet conditions if not taken care of.

BTW the only reason why they didn't stay with the 92f was a slide fracturing problem the early models had under heavy firing conditions.

you put the most expensive ninja night fighting pistol in the hands of a novice against a reliable pistol in the hands one who knows how to use it and my money is on the latter.

whats better? ..........the one you know how to use!
