Just wondering is anyone using a 7 twist 6mm for the 115gr Bergers or DTACs. And if you are what case are you using, and what your sucess has been? Toying with the idea of using a 6.5 x 55 necked down to 6 and maybe improving it as well.

7 twist on 6mm

I understand 8 inch twist is all you need for the 6mm heavy bullet.
I would use what Berger recommend. why not a 243 Win as it is proving extremely accurate with the 115 DTAC for long range shooting up to 1200 yds. (ref. US sniper match winners). It has low recoil and you get 3150 fps with RE 25 powder in a 26 inch tube.

Donny is an extremely savvy shooter and knows what he wants:)

FYI 115 Bergers will not do well in a 1:8 and some experience (Jim Benge) suggests they aren't even good with a 7.5 although the greenhill formula suggests a 7.5 should work.

I would like to see the 243 Winchester that would get 3150 with a 115 grain bullet in ANY length barrel or ANY powder, especially with that quick twist. Just isn't possible at sane pressures. 2850 is close to max with that case and the 115. Mind you, the BC of the 115 make it quiite viable even at 2850. Regards, Eagleye.
