Another modified milarm to share

The Humanity!!

Jacques.......you appear to have missread the details in this thread.

This is NOT a standard M95 that you could buy from Century.

It is a M95M which is NOT 8x56R

Um! Did ANYBODY notice that he said it had ALREADY been re-chambered and the barrel was not indexed correctly when he got it??? Speak softly before you swing the big stick. "I beseech you in the bowels of Christ think it possible you be mistaken." Oliver Cromwell)

EDIT - Stormbringer beat me to it!

I had a pair of these for some time, the long one and the short one...they were readily available from Century firearm in Montreal (1988..)...about 50-75$ each...odd caliber, not much significance from a Canadian perspective...
Sold mine shortly after...

I am sure many museum have pristine specimens for posterity...and serious collectors can find what they need...this sporterise one is probably a rare specimen now as not too many shooters have great interest in this rifle originally in 8X56 it is?

Enjoy!

Sorry Jacques, but this is NOT an Austrian M95 in 8x50R or 8x56R imported by the barrel at $50 each. It was a rare 8x57JS Serbian Mannlicher which was likely ww2 Nazi issue. They are rare and valuable compared to the more common Austrian refurbs from Bulgaria you are talking about.

You missread what I am saying.

It is the rechambering via a new barrel that makes err correction MADE this particular firearms rare!

I urge you to follow the link to Milsurp posted above and read the history that this particular rifle used to represent.

What I gathered fom the originator of this thread is that the barrel convertion was suspect in the first place...when you can see the slanted sight with bare eyes...it does not inspire much confidece as to the value of the gun itself...
so I would say let him live...and enjoy his gun
cheers

Oooh boy! Didn't I set the cat among the pigeons! Mea culpa, mea culpa! In my own defense, I did this some 10 years ago (before I even knew this site existed-if it existed then). As I said, I'm normally the last one to mess with any original milarm, but with the sights at about a 10 deg. cant to the left, I did what seemed best at the time. It has done sterling service at putting venison on the table. Mayhap I can mitigate the (not totally undeseved) scorn from some of you in saying that, as a cabinet maker, I've had the pleasure of restoring several f**ked up Lee Enfields, a painted stocked P.14, several Moisin Nagants (one of Westinghouse manufacture) and any number of civilian rifles including a Winchester in .45-60. Forgive the noob please, but I honestly had no idea. BTW, the only marking on knoxform is Steyr and the M95M, so I don't know if it ever went through the hands of another government other than the Austrian. Once again, sorry if I offended any of you.

Hey Lawrence. Welcome to the forum. I am ashamed to say I have bubba'd a few nice Milsurps years back before I saw the errors of my ways. Now I spend all my spare time rescuing the intact ones and restoring the not too badly bubbad units I can find. Trying to appease the wrath of the great Milsurp Gods I guess! GRIN I too still drag home venison using a couple rifles I bubba'd years ago too. Man! Some of those guns are accurate aren't they? Anyway, you'll have a great time here on the forums. You won't find a better bunch of Gunnutz anywhere!

I love what you did.

I love what you did.
"dont get me wrong, I think it looks like sh%* in every way.
But it your gun, so it is your right. You can melt it down if you want.
If these milsurp guys have a problem with your property. maybe they should search out every un-bubbad gun there is and buy it.

Its your property and its your right!!!

Hey Lawrence firstly welcome to gunnutz . dont take it personally .
i got a thorough spanking when i showed off my newly pu scoped
possibly rare and worth almost 300 bucks finnish missmatch parts rifle.
Get over it , i did , i still enjoy shooting the old girl.
despite all the holier than thou types here there is a wealth of infomation to be gleaned from them in the know.
there is no such thing as a stupid question , just a stupid answer.
the latter appears quite often.

Move along now there is nothing more to be seen here :nest:

I doubt it - our hero drilled and tapped it, chopped the bbl, removed the rear sight, and god knows what else.

I mean REALLY folks. Doesn't ANYONE bother to go read up on un-sporterized guns BEFORE reaching for the hacksaw??? Would you manage your RSSPs and stocks so carelessly?
Claven, my error, though you may want to read the later post on my part. As far as I could tell, the barrel was a standard K98 barrel, and I didn't have it chopped. The pic as as you see it.

I have a few of these in both sporterized and original unspoiled condition. The sporterized ones are scarce, but far more common than the unsporterized, in fact, I had to go to the US to get the stock sets (Michigan and Utah).

IMO, the anecdotal evidence suggests that probably a few hundred made it to Canada 15 or so years ago and the vast majority were sporterized (when it was still cool to do so). That's just what people did 10 or more years ago.

The M95M marked "Steyr" is the most common. Now if it had been marked "Budapest", or had the Bulgarian Crest, or was a M95/24, that would have been a greater shame.

If it's any consolation, the extractor, and the clip that is affixed in the mag are worth up to $100 to the right person. The extractor is fragile (breaks if rounds are not loaded from the mag), and the clip seems to go missing for reasons I don't understand.

you people who are mourning the desecration of a milsurp are missing an important fact.................

ITS HIS FRICKEN RIFLE!!!!!!! he could have a long branch sniper and if he wants to chop it who are we to call the guy names ?

LawrenceN

welcome to the forum

+1

While a shame to chop an original, it is his to do what he likes.

Welcome to forum........

I think he, or anyone else, can do what they like with a rifle, but perhaps pics and gory details might be better placed in the gun smithing or hunting rifles forums.
