Triple A shooter

Just a quick questions. How is a person considered a triple A shooter, in ATA trap. Is it there average or handicap? Just wondering

There is usually no "AAA" only "AA" in ATA 16 yard trap, all classes work on your scored average on 2000 targets.The class system is based on 5 classes now but I think at one time they did use 6.
AA=97% +
A=94.50% to 96.99%
B=91.50% to 94.49%
C=88.50% to 91.49%
D= Under 88.50%

Handicap shooting uses the field to sort out the classes any new mens shooter starts at 20 yards, ladies,seniors sub-juniors and the physically handicapped start at 18 yards for the first 500 targets. At that point your scores at each event may "bump" you additional yards. I believe a score of 97or higher gets you 1 yard automatically regardless of the number of targets shot as does winning an event. The maximum yardage shot is 27 yards.

Usually no "AAA" or there is no AAA? I say there is no AAA. AAA must be a skeet thing? I have never heard of it in trap.

There might be some confusion here with shooters being called AA-27-AA, which is AA singles, 27 yard handicap and AA doubles class. AFAIK, ATA does not recognize AAA as a class. (Not that I've even been close to it) Solid B\C man here.

Never heard of it either, the very best I have known were canadian team members and pros, and they were all AA shooters.
I think if there WAS an AAA class, Winchester would call there stuff,AAA

I believe that the ATA started a AAA class, which is/was necessary in very large shoots like the Grand to separate the great shooters from the PRO'S.I think either 98 or 98.5 was the cutoff.

In Skeet, AAA is classified as averages above;

I said there is usually no "AAA" bacause most ATA shoots use the 5 class system but the rule book states that a 6 class system including "AAA" may be used. Which is why I said USUALLY.

I stand corrected. Page 19 of the rule book:

2. For 16-yard events the following systems are established:
SIX CLASSES
98% and over AAA
96.25% and under 98% AA
94.75% and under 96.25% A
93% and under 94.75% B
90% and under 93% C
under 90% D

As an example, the 2008 Canadian (Thursday, June 26 to Sunday, June 29, 2008 Hamilton Gun Club in Stoney Creek, Ontario, Canada) will be shot using 6classes, to AAA.

When did they start the AAA class?
(I've been out of competitive trap for a very long time!)
