Galil/Valmet Bolt carrier on AK

I ran a Galil bolt carrier in my 308 Valmet M78 for a while, also tried a Norinco AK carrier, it worked as well. Any AK carrier will work EXCEPT the AK74 carrier as the 5.45 bolt has a smaller stem just aft of the bolthead.

Yes you can convert calibers, 223 and 5.45. I know that the galil that I had a long time ago had an ak carrier not sure if it was 7.62 or 5.45 but I am guessing that it was the 30 caliber as back then in the free days 5,45 was ultra rare.
What do you have planned? I like the galil carrier for the upturned handle, but I am sure that you could weld on and extra piece of metal and mount the knurled top to it.

Can't say for sure about the bolt, but I've seen footage of a gang in Liberia where one of them had put an R4/Gallil dustcover on an AK, and it seemed to fit fine. Since a Gallil is a copy of a Valmet, which is a copy of an AK...

Bolt carriers and top covers are all interchangeable between the various versions of the AK - the 5.45 bolt/carrier has a different bolt shaft diameter though...
At least thats what a friend told me...:D
Now Cooey parts on the other hand...

I just tried my Valmet 76 carrier in a milled Norinco and it wouldn't fit as the piston wouldn't pass through the gas tube. The dust cover off of the Norc fit the Valmet but not vice versa. I tried putting the Norc carrier in the Valmet and it fit but wouldn't pass over the hammer (different angle on the bottom of bolt and carrier) so couldn't push it forward to the chamber, If I held the hammer down I could get ot to go forward but the piston is smaller and gets caught on the opening of the gas block.

Later this spring I am going to be making new designed pivot blocks so I can run a krink top cover on the non-krink ak and get a longer sight radius and have a small optic mounting rail as a plus. Not sure if I will use the Bulgy or Yugo config, they have different pivot hole locations and different sight radius.
