VZ-58s and more...FAQs are Post 1

Q: Considering this monster thread, what do you think of the VZ-58 type rifle?

  • It is a beauty as it comes, and a must have, since it drives Libs bonkers.

  • It is best pimped out and dressed up, a far cry from an NDP convention.

  • It is true it was the first cool gun in the Cdn. market for a long while, but I'll pass.

  • It makes me think of snide remarks, as I am a gun snob and the 58 is affordable.

I wish the company that makes 858s got their s**t together. No rifle off the rack should do this.

agreed ..... and also wolverine should replace all the sear disconnect prior to shipping them out .

the problem was light primer strikes.I would be shootin away, then click!I would eject the live cartridge and see a light primer strike.Apparently this is the infamous"gremlin".So I got a new bolt carrier and trigger assembly and shazam!problem solved.

thanks for the info ... i wonder why wolverine sent you the carrier? did you notice any difference to the old? or maybe when you get a chance to measure them with a caliper.

Question.

I want to go ahead and chop a 858 down to the gas block and then move the front sight back. I don't really feel like waiting 5+ weeks for the transfer to go through for a restricted and then have it cut down. Would getting a 858 19" thats non-restricted and having the instant transfer done, then having the barrel cut down and having it referyfied be faster? Since the gun is already in my name they won't have the retransfer it, just send off the reclassification to the CFC and have the certs changed, correct?

Or am I missing something?

Thanks.

Oh ya thats right, silly me. Stupid laws. Looks like I'll be waiting for the restricted transfer then... :/

Maybe I can find a dealer with a smith that can do the job while I wait for the transfer..... hrm. Anyone?

my cz858 carrier looks like the one on the left .

the carrier on the right that has part of the ramp milled out has nothing to do with the sear disconnect cos the SD is on the other side . the milled out part has to do with the full auto sear .
