I was at the range a couple of days a go, shooting slugs from my smooth bore (Mossberg 500). After 5 rounds my shoulder feels like $hit. I want a stock/pistol grip set up (hoping it will help with the kick) or some sort of shock absorbing stock. Where can I get one, I live in near Barrie Ontario.

next time you go out you will be able to shot 5-10 befor you shoulder feels like that , then time after maybe more.. your arm will get use to it.

but Butler Creek makes some good kits , i get most of mine off ebaY

Pistol grip won't do anything to help with the recoil. 3" Magnum slugs in my 870 are one of the most punishing rounds I shot. After trying to bench 15 I was done for the day. Try a softer shooting slug, no need to beat youself up unless you want to. 3" Magnums are entertaining once in a while though.

I use a PAST Magnum Recoil Shield on me. I can use any long gun wearing it. Puts the recoil pad on you, rather than your gun.

If it persists you could always go to a Knoxx stock. Personally I haven't used one because my shotguns treat my shoulder well. I'm probably a little bigger than the average dude (6'5", 240lbs) but I don't feel my shotguns anymore. It will probably be something you will get used to pretty quickly.

Make sure that you are using proper form, hold and stance and the gun fits you properly. If you hold the gun incorrectly the recoil will hurt no matter what stock.
Cheers

years ago, I would shoot 5 rounds of the Remington 3" slugger 12 gauge rapid fire. It took about 10 seconds after for your shoulder to feel any pain :)

Do it with a metal LEO folder on an 870, after that everything feels like it's got less recoil.Of course it will also look like you got a mean left hook to the jaw.

Use a shooting Jacket. I have the Fabarm telescoping stock ( made by Knoxx) on my Martial and I was surprised at how tame the gun was with 3" I was expecting more I guess.

I notice a big difference between 2 3/4" and 3" slugs in my 870 shooting sabots with the rifled barrel. I could shoot Challengers/ Reduced load tactical through the smooth bore all day.

I've been trying to find Challenger Ammunition, but with no success. I live in the Barrie (Ontario) area, do you now were I can find them

I use the heavy federal 3" slugs in my norc. The first time I tried to shoot all 6, I had to put the gun down halfway through the mag. You will get used to it if it's not a serious problem. I can shoot them without any pain or flinching at all now.

I'm still looking at getting another stock, because the shape of the norc one aggravates two injuries I have: a strained wrist from this past winter's snowmobile crash, and a nerve-damaged cheek from when I was a kid. I think this one fits the bill, I won't have to turn my wrist:

I put a pistol grip on my 870 and it did help. Recoil is perceived. Everyone reacts differently. I bought a Speedfeed stock and it holds more rounds in the stock so it was a win win.
