this gooses days are numbered...

LOL, I can tell you how long that goose would have lasted with my dog.
Most dogs are no match for a full grown aggressive goose. That goose was half tame but one in full attack mode is nothing to tangle with.

We had geese on our farm and they were quite formidable when they wanted to be.

That goose would not have had my dog to worry about. Once I had my hand around his/her neck, that would have been the last time.

Ring ring, goose for supper honey :).

One of the best tests for a young dog, is the ol' gander fight. If he's just winged and super pissed and you send out your dog you'll get two different outcomes, the dog will run up, get bitten, put tail between legs and run home, or in the case with most labs ;) they'll run right through the bird, knocking it over pick it up by the ass and carry it back right to ya, getting bit the whole way back, you know you've got a keeper when that happens. I've seen that video on another forum where the guys an actual member and he said his dogs very well trained and he told her not to the attack the goose, so who knows.

With that video..you have evidence that it came straight for you and you we're defending yourself and your dog. I would have rang its melon off the side of the aluminum boat and been eating a good dinner that night with my dog!

Some dogs will not run away from the attacker or bring it back to you. They eat it on the spot. If Little Ruffie got there before you he would not give it up. His favourite was raccoon that he caught trying to steal his kibble.

Damn, thats a huge dog!!! Gotta be at least 200 lbs!

That goose was funny though, had one chase after me when i was kid. Scared the living hell outta me.

Greenfields,
Little Ruffie was an Irish Wolf Hound mixed with a Bouvier des Flandres. He was a very friendly dog that just liked to be part of the action. Not a good hunting dog for the reasons stated above. It was always fun to see peoples reaction to him when he was off the leash and romping around. He would come galloping up to you and push you with his head. He just wanted to play. Slobber was always part of the experience, lots of slobber.
RIP Little Ruffie.

Thats why we enjoy them as much as we can while they are with us.

Re: the goose.

This is a terrible video, and indicative of what's wrong with our world today. No thought, no reason, just rough handed reaction.

No one thought to ask what was troubling the goose. It could have been in an agitated state due to abuse or an underprivileged childhood. We cannot solve conflict without understanding the reasons for it.

No one attempted to reason with the goose. Perhaps an agreement could have been reached, or maybe arbitration could have solved the problem. We'll never know, as no one tried.

It seems clear to me (from the way that it followed the boaters) that the goose simply wanted to be involved, to participate in the activities. The kind of rough repudiation the goose received would raise anyone's dander. This sort of violence is never the answer. Couldn't they have invited the goose along on their outing?

Unless we can overcome our base instincts and learn to use our intelligence to solve conflicts such as this I fear our planet is doomed to eternal strife. Can't we all just learn to get along?

1 bunch fresh thyme
4 bay leaves
5 medium oranges, each cut in half
1/2 teaspoon coarsely ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme leaves
1 1/4 teaspoons salt
2 tablespoons cornstarch
3 tablespoons orange-flavor liqueur

Orange wedges and fresh thyme for garnish

We need oven temps and times per pound to help out with your 'Liberal' recipe:)

If it only saves one goose from being overcooked...
