reloading for the .303 Enfield.

303 cast bullet loads

have excellent results with
200grs gas checked over 14 grs Unique
you will have to put your sight to seven hundred yards (if you are shooting at 100 yard distance)...
it is plenty accurate and a lot of fun to shoot,...like a big 22, kind of...
cheers

Is there a premium .311 bullet yet?

I have heard of handloaders using 7.62/39 ,55 grain bullets for varmint loads.
Are there any other interesting projects like that?

Yes, for longtime now. Sierra 174gr BTHP

This is what I use

Cartridge Overall Length 3.075"
Winchester primers
Powder Charge (gr) 41.5 IMR 4895
MV (ft/s) 2539

plinker

What are your best reload recipes for the .303 Enfield? I would like to try cast as well as jacketed. I have Hornady 174 gr bullets and the Lee 185 gr mold.

Have you considered plinker loads...I used to load a cast 185gr with 10gr of HP38 and a bit of filler to ensure powder stayed near the primer....nice little grouping at 25M and 5'' at 100M...velocity resemble the .22LR...as for the recoil...nothing to report!!

I have had great luck with the Sierra 180 flatbase and 37 grains of IMR 4895 for about 2250 ft/sec MV. Seat to OAL of a Mk. VII BALL round.

This is a bit mild but a great shootin' load: half-inch off the bags from several Smellies (great shape, mind you) and touching holes (Ross, of course) many times. Here, we test with 2-shot groups from a cold barrel for sniping (or hunting) grouping/zeroing.

Have funs

I use 180 sierra with H414. granted I'm using a lee loader scoop but I did just fine putting a hole through a fire extinguisher at 100 yards with iron sites.

Unless you need full power for moose hunting, it is a good idea to down load a bit. The #4 is a rear locker and stretches the brass. Full power loads will ruin the brass in 5 reloads, maybe less. For plinking, there is no need for full power or full recoil.

With cast bullets I use 2400 and that brass will last forever.
