Im looking at getting a 1911 to shoot in IPSC standard division. I want to spend around $1500 on it, but want a quality gun for my $$$. im looking now at Kimber, Para, and STI, but have no idea which models to look at. Id be looking to throw a magwell on it, and fiberoptic sights, have a good solid trigger (that can be tuned if need be, not a huge requirement)..and will be a good all around gun.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Out of all 3, STI is it.

No firing pin safety on all STIs so you can tune the hell out of the trigger. And not that there's anything wrong with them from the factory.

You could do that for around $900 - get an STI Spartan and have a magwell installed (if you get it from Armco it'll have a nice trigger too) then use the money you save for ammo/gear/components/reloading equipment. Since the Spartan is the low end of the STI line, everything above is gravy too.

Best overall gun I ever got was an STI Trojan. Tight, not too expensive and with a trigger from Gunnar, a real accurate shooter!

Now I have a Target Master - it's not suited for what you want to do but STIs are really great shooters and usualy represent good value.

I wouldn't hesitate for a moment to use my Spartan in IPSC - it may be the bottom of the STI line but it is one damned fine piece of hardware.

Any of them would probably be fine. Under $1500 I don't find a lot of difference in construction quality, but a Trojan I handled yesterday had a very smooth slide action.

Consider the hangups you would have with a warranty repair, and the sights for your eyes.

I have a Para SSP, which is fine for me, but if I were buying a 1911 in that price range now, I'd probably buy an STI Trojan. Also, it seems to have the fewest Internet forum owner complaints--except for the Les Baer line. But the Les Baer PII is several hundred dollars more than you want to spend.

Use the Internet for some research. You'll find thousands of pages about 1911s. Here's a sample. Just add the first w.

i dont think ill go with a glock..i already have a G22 and G27 and really wanna add a 1911 to the collection.

So I guess i'm looking at the STI Trojan...what about the Edge? (i know its a bit pricier, but maybe get a used one?)..im gonna stay away from kimber, but still not completely rejecting the Para either.

What models of Para should i look at?
Does the Trojan have a 10+1cap (from what i gather its only 8+1...which isnt good for IPSC)
and if not, what good .45's out there can i get with a 10+1 capacity?

also, if any of you have a 1911 that you're looking to part with...i have my beretta CX4 up for sale/trade...lemme know what you got!
