I remember seeing the pictures on the wall at Lever's from his time in China touring the factory that made the AK's. This was after the ban and they could no longer be imported.
I asked him what he thought of the country and that I heard it was a nice place to visit.
Mr. Lever just kind of shuddered as if remembering an unpleasant experience and he commented dryly, "Nice? There is nothing nice in China!"
I'll take him at his word on that one!
It is pretty ingenious the way that HK reverse engineered the 1963 American designed AR180's gas system for their rifle, they are so smart.
The test is flawed.
In the first 416 test, they gave about 1.9 seconds for the rifle to drain. In the first M4 test, they gave less than 1.0 seconds for the rifle to drain.
I'm not saying the 416 would have blown up had it been fired earlier, but the M4 may not have if given the extra 0.9 seconds to drain.

Well I agree that the HK16 is superior from previous tests that i've seen or read, but the point of this discussion is whether this test was fair. Dynamite Monkey clearly points out the most important note!! The experiment is flawed and theres no point in discussing this clip any further in my opinion.
i'm not an fluid dynamics engineer, but if you think about it...
the DI M4 requires a significant amount of GAS to be bled back into the receiver where there is limited volume space in an enclosed space. the high pressure gas would need some place to expand and the added pressure of having water in the receiver and the gas expansion would cause some serious pressures in the receiver... i could see how the receiver would blow apart on the M4.
the piston 416 does not expel gas into the receiver, only the rod enters the receiver, and would only cause a negligent increase in pressure compared to the DI M4. the gas in the 416 is bled off at the front of the piston assembly, inside the porous handguard, where there is only open water... not adding pressure to blow up anything.
although not the most controlled experiment, it does do a good job at demonstrating a worst case scenario for both weapon systems.

There's no reason it wouldn't. It just wouldn't eject properly like the 416 did.
I'd be interested to know if the gas tube even fills with water. Assuming the bolt carrier is snug to the tube in theory it could hold a vacuum keeping water out. The gas tube is pretty thin. On the other hand I don't know.
Remember the guy that burned off 1000 rounds in full auto with an m16 and continually kept throwing it in the pond?
Seeing as how it was an HK toting production it's assumed to be biased. The 416 is a nice gun. It's been proven. Looks like they're going a little far to prove it.

Also, my M4 is going to be just like a 416 only way better.

I love at 3:35 in that video after he pulls it out of the sand and starts shooting they put some crappy full auto sound effects on the clip, when if you look at his finger and the brass that he is obviously bursting.
Good eyes! I never noticed that until you mentioned it. They also did it around 5:00 mark when he pulled it out of the water.
I think they must have dubbed in the sound form the 100 round rotation test at 6:10.
After that, the video seems to match the sound.
