I was talking to a gun dealer today and he said that they had stopped shipping them to Canada. So if I was going to get one to get it now.But I was wondering about getting the shells for it.Are they easy to get or hard to find?
"...Heard Remington owns..." Remington bought Marlin, who owned the H&R, NEF and L.C. Smith brand names, in January of '08.
There's no mention of a .500 S&W on any H&R firearm list though. The ammo runs $47.49US per 20 and way up.
Just to clarify, Remington does own H&R. but they are not closing the plant just moving it. Closer to the remington factory. Synergest effect, smart business move. One payroll, one HR dept.
As for the H&R rifle. I love my H&R 10g turkey gun and would definately buy another H&R. Awesome gun and very pleased with the quality. Nothing fancy, but solid as a rock!!
Two years of waiting for the proper approvals and bureaucratic BS from the US, necessary to export this big bad '50'
Range report upcoming, as soon as I find some time to take it out shooting. Hopefully this weekend sometime. I've got about 40 loaded up with various loads from reduced Blue Dot loads behind 330 grain Bullet Barn bullets to full house lil gun loads behind 440gr GC cast bullets. Based on reports from guys in the States, I can expect 1900-2000 fps from the 440's, which puts it squarely in 45-70 levergun territory.
I have no plans to ever put $3/pop factory ammo through it, when I can load it for <50c a piece reloads.

Lebarons has Winchester shells listed in their new fall catalogue on-line, $50 for 20 rounds. Even reloading for the 500S&W is difficult with regard to finding components. In the end it seemed more effort than it was worth for a 100 yard gun. I really thought about picking one up but just bought a new SIG instead
I have decided to go with the 45/70 if I go the NEF route in the future. But I may change my mind based on Prospers range report.
