Nighthawk Custom versus Wilson

If anyone gets stuck with whichever one loses this debate, don't worry, I'll take away the shame, just ship it to me. :D

They seem practically identical in terms of fit and finish. Neither uses MIM parts, both make claims to the same accuracy, and the prices on the various models are almost identical.

I find NH prettier , especially the T3 . And if u are looking for a compact 1911 ....u wont get an extended barrel with NH. NH are better priced i find compared to wilsons unless ur able to have questar get u one from the States , but u ll still end up paying a couple hundred more for Wilsons . Advantage with NH is that they back up their product 100% . Great customer service even for canadians . Im still debating getting a T3 either in hard chrome or diamond black finish .

IIRC - Nighthawk chaps use to work for Wilson.
That being said - this type of quality pistol becomes a question of personal preference. $$$$ not for everyone.
At the time that I was looking Nighthawk was not available in Canada...

Which model in the Wilson line did you buy?

The whole Nighthawk line was being brought in by Target sports, which is now TSE. I've held a few nighthawks and they're very, very nice

No doubt that STI make great guns. But, the Nighthawk is different. There are no MIM parts whatsoever (whereas STI does use them), and it's guaranteed to a certain level of accuracy. That can't be said for STI. I've owned a couple of STIs. A Ranger II 9mm that I owned was extremely accurate. The Tactical .40SW I owned seemed less accurate than the Ranger II. I've got a USPSA single-stack and another Tactical in .45 on way. Will be interested to see how they compare to the nighthawk on the range.

Sorry, it was inregards to the "If you want a 1911 buy a Springer or Kimber" comment. I wouldn't compare an STI to a NightHawk. I should have used a quote.

I'll probably get flamed but .40S&W is inherently less accurate round?

Many would agree with you. I found that to be true.

I can't understand the physics of why a .40 projectile should be less accurate than a 9mm projectile, given the same gun design and shooter.

After having owned .22, 9mm, .38, .357, .40 and .45 handguns, I was the worst shot with .40 by far. I could never figure it out. It might be that the snappy recoil throws off the shooter's grip after the first shot. And/or the snap causes an anticipatory flinch.

So, I guess I'll get flamed, too. I guess that until I master it, I'll believe that the .40 S&W is an answer to a problem that never existed.

I'm sure, though, that the experts on this board will clear up the mystery.

Fire away!
