Hey Guys;

Well, I finally got a scope on my Ruger 10/22 and hit the range. The gun functions perfectly, but the trigger is down right horrible!!!

I've looked at rimfiresports.com, and they have a set of parts to improve the trigger... But, it's also a hundred bucks... Is there anything I can do to the factory parts to improve the trigger? Or am I going to be stuck buying parts to make the trigger liveable... Cause I can't live with it the way it is now...:puke:

The trigger and some tactical inc aluminum mags are the only other mods to this rifle I plan...

Cheers & Thanks

Hawktech has kits by Power Custom that are $50. Sometimes all you need is the hammer to lighten the pull to acceptable.

I would reccomend just getting a hammer. You can get these for about $30 at Hawktech and Rimfire sports/custom (free shipping :)). Should lower pull from 8lbs or around there to about 2.5-3lbs. A great imrovement at a good price.

Id go with the VQ drop in hammer...very nice, cheap, and easy to do.

If you have the know how you can try stoning the hammer and sear yourself, but if it isnt done right will greatly affect the performance of the rifle.

I bought a VQ drop in hammer, and it has worked flawlessly. Another possibility would be to get a Kidd assembly. Best on the market.

and if it doesn't matter to you, they have hammer seconds for $20. seems they have some slight cosmetic flaw. better then the regular $38.00 I'd say.

Wow, thanks for the advice and links guys! Seems replacing the hammer is the way to go, for a start... If the hammer makes the trigger pull reasonable, then it will be the last modification this rifle will see.

I am curious though... Why not a hammer & sear? Why just the hammer? Are the original Ruger hammers that sh1tty, that it is one of the things most people replace? Or did I get the one that is particularly HORRIBLE???

Cheers

Okay... The "cheap" side of me just jumped out... I went on voltswhateveritsnameis.website...

I found the bargin bin, saw the hammer for $20 and decided to order it... I signed up, added the hammer to my cart and then, then it told me that the shipping is $9.95 and $1.40 for taxes... Takes a $20 bargin to $31.35!!! Paying over 50% for taxes and shipping gave me cause to reconsider my order... At that rate, I might as well shop around a bit...

Anyone else with some links?

Cheers & Thanks

Jay,
If you are at all "handy" just modify the stock components yourself. Search RimfireCentral and you will find all you need. PM me your e-mail addy and I'll send you a couple of files I have here also. You need to be able to drill, preferably drill press, aneal and re-harden, and tap 10-32 and 8-32 for set screws and you can have a fully adjustable, safe 2# trigger. You can also do a simple return spring relacement and get rid of the dreaded "trigger return plunger" Total cost if you have the skills and equipment, $0.

Hey Elimsprint, nope... All I have here is a dremel tool, vice and a limited number of general handtools... Unfortunately, Ottawa to BC isn't going to make this a cheap trigger job, ha ha ha... Anyone in Ottawa ever done the mod's Elimsprint is talking about?

Cheers & Thanks

POWER CUSTOM HAMMER & SEAR PACKAGE
Mfr: POWER CUSTOM # 713-122-003 cost $59.99

Get the above mentioned parts from "BROWNELLS" ... google them as they ship to Canada and are great to deal with.

Go to cheapgunparts.com. They have a kit with hammer; sear; auto bolt release and bolt buffer which is great. Reduces trigger to 2.5 pounds. While you're there, order an oversize magazine release. Great company to deal with.

Obviously time to move to Kelowna, and this gives you a good reason, lol.
