hypothetically/realistically - what do you think the best .22LR rifle is?

If I had the cash, the 10/22 would of been my second rimfire. Great fun shooting and modifying, but it's not something I'll cherish forever. A good bolt-action in nice wood, that's timeless.
 
I have little experiencing knowing what kind of trigger pull I like or dislike...tho I've always been the sort to like the heavy duty hard hitting, so it may not bother me, until I try what my rifle has and then get an opportunity to fiddle with one that's been tinkered with.

I have no clue what I'd think of iron sights, being my eyesight is pretty bad. I love the look of the bull barrel's over the iron sighted one's...but I've not got experience with either to know what I do and don't like. chances are I will get something like the Varmint being my brother will have something with iron sights (his Marlin 39A or Browning BL22 or maybe even a Winchester 9422) and we'll get to play with each other's.

after I pass my RPAL tomorrow, I'm gonna put up a WTB ad me thinks, in the EE forum. heck, they should make a rimfire only EE, me thinks! :cool:
 
Cooey model 75...50 some years old and still hits 'em at 100 and out to 200 yards. Add a 6x24 scope and enjoy. It is not the gun that is accurate...it is the operator that knows where it shoots that makes accuracy.
 
Last time I was buying, the answer was a Marlin 795, but on another occasion the criteria for "best" could be different, so the answer could be, too.
 
Go for the CZ 452. You will not be dissapointed, and it is a gun for a lifetime. Its the next rimfire I am buying.
 
I have a rem 541s that is great. If you get a rifle that you a happy to use ,is very acc, looks good you will keep it. I have gone through many 22s but this Rem is here for awhile. This is not the time or place to cheep out. You will shoot more rounds out of the 22 then all the others combined (prob) good lucK AJ:wave:
 
so the salesman at the WSS here showed me some form of Marlin .22LR bolt repeater. same price as the standard Winchester Wildcat (Toz 78) I was interested, but it's a heck of a lot more gun! it's weight is nicer, the action is nicer, can't say I saw any plastic on it and the magazines are all metal rather then plastic or polymer like the Wildcat. I was impressed. thoughts?

Now am concerned, may have to agree with that/Pottsy.

"Best" as in accurate, single shot, separate cocking and 1/2 #### safety, and not too nice in terms of trigger - lets you appreciate other firearms in future. Can keep it forever, not too much money tied up in it and fun to keep first gun. The 75 is nice but big bit, the 39 & 750 a little lighter smaller and IMHO a great first gun, the 60 is a nice bolt repeater, could work for first gun, the 64 not really a Cooey but still enjoy mine (in both Sears and Cooey forms).

"Best" as in accurate out of the box, nice to operate CZ453 and reasonable price(compared to Kimber & Annie).

"Best" as in lower priced accurate out of the box, nice to operate, dont need something fancy or can drop in trigger later... CZ 452 Lux (iron) or Varmint (scope). Can scope Lux but will need about 10 mm higher rings than on Varmint and not have Varmint's heavy barrel.

"Best" as in will shoot it a bit, not really care about accuracy or keeping it, any low end Marlin for little $.

Those take down Brownings are ###y too but pricey.
 
Your $600 budget in mind, the CZ should be a no-brainer. If you look on the EE, you can pick up a 452 for about $400, that gives you some leeway to mount a decent scope. Factory triggers on the CZ 452 is a bit heavy, but an Eric Brooks kit ($15) will solve that plus more.

Currently I run a 452 American with a Tasco Varmint 6-24x scope on BKL rings, done up with Eric Brooks trigger job. All this cost me $500 with change (the gun was bought "used" but basically in brand new condition). I had a 10/22 done up right to shoot like the CZ, but it cost me almost 2-3 times the money to do so, so I sold the 10/22 lol. More money to upgrade the current scope I guess.

If you come out to the LML (Lower Mainland, it seems a number of people haven't seen this acronym?) I could let you shoot my CZ to see how you like it.
