Browning BL22, Marlin 39A or a Henry Golden Boy

Time for Marlin to bring back the Mountie(20")!

The other thing to consider is the difference between a straight stock and one with a pistol grip...

Tyger has a good point about resale on the Marlin. There aren't too many in the E.E. and for a small penalty you should be able to sell it easily if you decide to get something else.

x3! the mountie?!?! My God! I would love to get one too! Maybe we should start sending Marlin requests for its return!

I have a line on a winchester 9422 for $575 + shipping. Looks brand new but the gun looks like the model 9422 Traditional and that gun is worth $479. Well the gun is totally beautiful but is it worth paying that kinda money for a mint conditon 9422 or get a marlin 39A new for $539.95?

Depends if the pistol grip and 24" on the Marlin is a deal breaker or not for you. I quite like mine - its a man-sized rifle not like a lot of .22's out there.

I LOVE marlins...all of them....but for a .22 lever, my vote has to go to the Browning. The Marlin is bigger...but for me that is a downside when it comes to a rimfire. Why pack the extra weight/size when there is no advantage in a rimfire? Rimfires should be compact, light, and fun to shoot...the BL22 is definitely all 3. The action has to be cycled to be believed, short little throw, finger never off the trigger (and no chance of getting the "trigger finger pinch" like you can with the others (Trust me, it HURTS!)

Quality wise, the Browning has it in spades (not saying the Marlin isn't a quality gun, it is) but the BL22 is just more "refined".

My .02

I've owned all 3 at one time or another. My marlin had the odd misfire and took her into a couple gunsmiths and the problem was never solved. Sold it. I like the henry but didn't care for the plastic parts on it. Sold it. The browning I thought was a keeper. Shot well, never jammed or mis-fired, loved the short throw on it but in the end sold it. Happens to most of my rilfes at one time or another.
I'd take the browning.

I find it humorous that everyone in the beginning seemed to expound the Marlin 39A whereas now in the latter half of this thread, people are speaking up for the Browning BL22.

not sure if it was mentioned, but how would the Winchester 9422 hold up against these two (Marlin 39A & Browning BL22)?

The winchester...depends on if you get a "new" one or an "Old" one. The old ones are about on par with the marllins, I'm not convinced on the quality of the newer ones.

I still say you should hold, cycle, and shoot (if possible) all the options...although I'm pretty sure once you cycle the browning your mind will be made up for you :)

we'll definitely have to join the KTSA and see if there's anyone that has them and will give us an opportunity to shoot them. I'm not as interested in lever actions as CK is, but that's cause I'm not a lefty! in any case...I have a lot of lines in on some cheap but older .22LR's, Cooey's, Sear's and a few others (forget which)...just trying not to suffer from information overload.

we've both held the BL22 at our local WSS store, but they don't have any Marlin 39A in stock. in fact, I was told they have ordered one in for a customer, so that doesn't lend itself much in the way having opportunity to at least hold. :(

Mr. Friendly the Marlin 39A was just on order. Nothing said about it being for a customer.

Would a 9422 Magnum be worth looking at? The ammo cost the same and all its gonna be for is hunting rabbits, gophers and plinking. Not gonna bother going looking for birds as Mr. Friendly can do that though I might go along with him as I'm the only driver that's in to hunting in our family.

we have a BL.22 sitting at our Wholesales. But I get the same thing when I ask about the Marlin 39A "we get it when it gets sent to us" how is that helpful when they don't know when they are getting the firearm in that you want to hold and see how nice of a fit it is. Still its better service then what I've gotten at the Powder Keg.
