Pics of a stripped svt 40? / SVT to SVD project

Just waiting for the buttstock to arrive and fit it after that bluing of the underframe and then the range test.
There is absolutely no alteration to the receiver or any other part of the firearm. It is fully reversible to the original in about 30 sec. The muzzle brake extension has 16x1 LH thread.
The harderst part was not the underframe but the lower handguard ( the upper is original).

i wouldnt do the extra long HG , i would either leave it like the above pic or replace the vent shield with some sort of a tubing..

yes, like in kasat pic.... that what i mean about replacing the vented guard with a tuby thingy.

kasat: interesting , how you took a romak stock and changed it to a SVD stock , now you need a cheek rest .

On the Globe bubba'd SVTs the gas tube is shortened from 20" to 8" and this gives them quite the kick.

I got rid of the "buldge" at the top of the buttstock and reshaped the back of the pistol grip. Actually I don't need a cheek rest , the height of the stock is just perfect for this configuration. What bothers me the most is the square end of the back of the receiver underframe. The horizontal cut in the Romak stock is in the way of reshaping it more like Dragunov stock so for now I have to live with it.

i know what you mean about the cut , the cut forces them to make the grip extra thick , making pulling the trigger uncomfortable , thats why i too had to mod the back of the grip.

i got a spare romak stock , i gonna try to covert it to a SVD with a cheek rest so my CZ could have two clones to change into .... wish me luck .

i really need luck cos i burnt out my dremel motor a month ago so i only got the drill press left , lol.

Minwax English Chestnut , 1 coat so far but it's too light still so 2 more coats to follow.

Sidenote - did you tap the original svt muzzle brake for that flash hider or is there something I'm not seeing?

Also, any way to get an svt brake off without wrecking the rest of it? Perhaps it's just really tightly threaded? (I can hope right?)

The original muzzle brake was not mutilated in any way.
All I did was to unscrew the tip (16 x 1 LH thread) and install a custom made flash hider threaded alike.

Re.P S : Yes , I had it in my mind when I was playing with SKS/AK stuff several years ago but I got really angry
when you wanted to hit the finish line first so I just did it
Re: P P S: I don't know. My machine shop costed me quite a few bucks and I don't know how much I should pay myself per hour so I can't really answer this question.
The time involved is significant , patience is a must.
