Deckard is right , it is a Romanian PSL heavily modified to fit the SVT40. It required reshaping of the front catch , narrowing of the upper part of the body , reshaping the "lips" , completely removing the rear catch and TIG welding a new one about 1/2" higher. After all this it fits like a glove with no annoying rattling associated with the original SVT mag. Some mods to the follower were also required but these were minor and kinda obvious after the upper body was narrowed. IT FEEDS PROPERLY.

Agreed. Quite an impressive project. I wouldn't have figured out the mag.

On a side note - what magnification scope is that?

Also, what degree of accuracy is expected from an SVT? That would influence whether it would be the basic 6x36 or 6x42 to mount, or a better 3-9x42 scope.

It's 8x42. At 50m the holes in the paper are clearly visible , at 100m forget it unless you are an eagle eyed gunnut.
